lemonidas
Hi all, I managed to install Kalyway 10.5.2 (all default options) and all is working fine My specs are: Albatron PX865PE Lite Pro P4@3.2 478 socket 1 GB 400 DDR Ati Radeon 9600 Pro 128 MB AGP Everything but the card works semi-fine (with some tweaks I found in the forum) But the card only shows 1024x768 resolution and QE/CI are Not Supported/Software So I bought a NVIDIA FX 5200 that I read it works with Leopard. I swapped them but I got a stuck grey screen, white apple logo, stuck rotating thingie and then after a while the "Reboot" message. I tried booting with -x -v -F "Graphics Mode"="640x480x16" and various combinations but nothing worked. I then re-swapped the cards and at least I got to boot into leopard again. Should I install something before swapping the cards? I have installed some drivers and Callisto 008 that should work for my card, but nothing for the FX 5200. In any case I think it must work better with the nvidia because many people mentioned tearing with the radeon card. Any help and/or pointer would be appreciated UPDATE: I installed the nvinject kext and then swapped the cards again. Now it's once again stuck on the gray screen but this time I get some artifacts above the apple logo, a rectangle, like it tried to draw a window but failed. Still stuck though. I'll try to swap again and hope it boots. Hi, I have the same card FX5200 (PCI 128mb) and this is what I did to make it work, I have QE/CI and change of resolution: I Install geforce 5200 installer.mpkg to (the name of the file is: geforce 5200 installer .mpkg) (I am using FX5200 PCI card). This package allone will give you CI, you need 10.5.3 to get QE. NOTE: maybe you need to change the line on titan.kext\Info.plist from 0x03000000 to 0x032210de if needed, I dont remember if I needed this or not (titan is installed with this package) I Install 10.5.3 package (MacOSXUpd10.5.3.pkg - this is 400MB file) to have QE. The 5200 package I found on this forum just do a search, its about 11mb size. I hope this helps, alien2xx If you dont find it here try this location: http://cn0571.blog.zj.com/blog/d-207595.html Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/137104-changing-from-ati-radeon-to-fx-5200-without-re-installing-leopard/#findComment-970291 Share on other sites
lemonidas
Thanks a lot for the answer! I will try it right now. I'm a bit scared to do the update as I did the update to 10.5.5 and it crashed on reboot so I had to re-install. Do you have a guide I can follow to go to 10.5.3 (or higher? ). I found this http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=107340 but I don't even know which file to use. Anyway first things first. I'll try the installer and we'll se how this goes. PS: do I need to delete the nvinject.kext or anything else? Mushishi
If yoo know how to use EFI strings you can try the sting i use on my FX5200 PCI card. I have addet the plist that you need to convert to hex and add in your com.Apple.boot.plist gfx.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/137104-changing-from-ati-radeon-to-fx-5200-without-re-installing-leopard/#findComment-970348 Share on other sites

PS: do I need to delete the nvinject.kext or anything else? I believe you should take nvinject.kext out so it does not interfere with the new package. 10.5.3 package I got is the patched one, not the one you get from apple. but dont remember where I got it from... look into leo4all.com forum too or search for a download link around here.. Hagar
The package is pointless, just use nvinject and the default Nvidia drivers from os x.. there are copious guides on nvidia installation and also on safe updating here on this forum, so there really is no need to make it all so complicated for yourself. I have addet the plist that you need to convert to hex and add in your com.Apple.boot.plist I added the efi string to com.apple.boot.plist using x86tools, then deleted Natit.kext, but even though my card is now reported correctly in profiler, I still have no other available resolutions other that 1024x768 and no CI/QE. Am I missing something?
