MrFuzzemz
I was curious as to whether or not someone has the AR5006EX working in 10.4.7 because I have not been able to (see above messages.) If it seems like it works in 4.6 before the 4.7 upgrade I am willing to re-install (I got the wireless card after I installed OS X86). zedzed
I bought the IBM/Lenovo Atheros Mini PCI-Express ABG Wifi card model # 40Y7026 http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...;catalogId=-124 I put it into my Acer 4202 laptop The card is seen but radio does not turn on in Windows Can you believe that IBM does not ship any drivers nor do they have any available online! Downloaded these drivers - http://www.ekahau.com/products/client/drivers/atheros/ The card is not recognized in OSX 10.4.7 Has anyone else tried this card on a non IBM/Lenovo laptop? Rammjet
The card is not recognized in OSX 10.4.7 As a minimum, you probably need to add the vendor/device id's to the wireless kext. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=200689
zedzed
I followed the instructions in http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=16971 I got dev id 1014 from there First I boot into Knoppix and run lspci but it did not give me a vendor or device ID. Just said that it was a Atheros 4212 card. The funny thing is that many people say atheros boards "work out of the box".
Rammjet
I followed the instructions in http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=16971 I got dev id 1014 from there But you don't know that is the device id of your card. The funny thing is that many people say atheros boards "work out of the box". There is only one or two device id's in the Atheros kext. So it doesn't cover many models. The Broadcom kext has half a dozen device id's and if you select the Wireless package in the JaS DVD installation, there are a lot more. So, you have a greater chance of getting a Broadcom to "work out of the box" than you do an Atheros.
zedzed
I can confirm that my card shows up as dev id 1014 in Windows Note: The card does not function in Windows in my Acer laptop. Reading the manual for the card I now see the following: To use this card a BIOS with "Electronic Handshake" must beinstalled on the ThinkPad. The Electronic Handshake will function only on the Thinkpad Z60T. So if you do not have a ThinkPad Z60T then do not buy this card. McAtom
I am using Thinkpad z60t with wireless card built-in. Thinkpad 11a/b/g wireless card of my laptop works great in 10.4.6 and 10.4.7. I downloaded over 10GB data thru it since I started to taste Mac OS a week ago. The card's id is: vendor id 168c, dev id 1014. IO80211Family.kext of 10.4.6 and 10.4.7 shall be replaced to make it work.
McAtom
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=8829 for Thinkpad 11a/b/g wireless card. Note: IO80211Family.kext comes with 10.4.6/7 install DVD won't work. You have to download 10.4.5 Intel update package from Apple and extract IO80211Family.kext to replace existing one. For my wireless card, dev id 1014 is already included in IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros5424.kext/Contents/Info.plist, so no modification needed. zedzed
IT WORKS! Following Wei Jiang's advice and help, I installed the older kext file and the Wi-Fi now works on my Travelmate 4202 laptop. Now - the only problem is that it does not work in WinXP. No drivers - ha ha ha Even the tech support guy at Lenovo finds it strange!
MrFuzzemz
New Mini PCI Express chipset from GigaByte with Atheros chipset: AR5005 GS Atheros. Has anyone tried it? It is also 108Mbps. I have already tried Dell 1390 and AR5006EX, but they don't seem to work with my system so they will probably be up for sale soon.
MrFuzzemz
I just ordered a gigabyte mini pci express wireless card from ewiz for $26. It is AR5006GS chipset as far as I can tell and I will post here with results as soon as I receive it. This is probably my last attempt at getting wifi working with my system as I have been unable to get it working with the AR5006EX. By the way, does anyone know how to enable/disable radio if you don't have the airport icon?
decosx
Hello Denied, I also have the HP DV2000 and got most of the things to work. Now I just need to replace my intel wireless mpci express card. What do you recommend?? How do I know if my bios locks non HP cards??? where did you buy your hp broadcom card??? Thanks The 1390 is rock solid in OS X, I'd assume it performs just as well in Windows. I've only tested mine on mac os. I also picked up an HP issued Broadcom pci-e card for my centrino dv2000 (some HP laptops bios-lock non HP wireless cards). My HP card was $20 shipped, and also fully OS-X compatible for us HP owners who may have a bios lock on our wireless. No modifications needed with JaS 10.4.7 install. My HP card uses the BCM 4311 chipset, HP part # 407159-001 (BCM94311MCG). I don't have the subsys ID handy but if anyone really needs it, PM me and I'll look it up. ...now, what to do with the stack of Intel 2200 and 3945 cards left over from all this? Which Gigabiytwe card did you order - the 108 Mbit one GN-WI01GT? According to Piero A. the GN-WI01GT 108 Mbit has a Atheros 5005 chipset with Ven ID 168C & Dev id 1c., which (reading along that thread) needs specific kexts + some plist editing ... BuXb
hey MrFuzzemz, thanks for replying so quickly That's the card that is built into Apple's MacBook 1.83GHz 13.3", by the way, so it NEEDS to work . And it's 108 Mbits, wow. It is not in stock anywhere in central Europe right now, I would have to order it from a shop in the states, so I am still considering right now on which card to order. Has ANYONE here gotten the GN-WI01GT 108 Mbit to work in OS x86? I just talked to a WiFi specialist here in Germany and he told me that the GN-WI01GT is the MiniPCI Express card right now on the market with the best reception/ broadcasting (100 mW) values .. TriHFH
Does anyone have any experience with replacing a 3954 mini pci-e card in a Sony VAIO notebook? I would like to know whether or not Sony's BIOS disables non-approved cards..
BuXb
So now my Laptop is equipped with a AR5006EX 54 Mbit abg which already works in Windows, but not yet in Mac OS x86. If anybody got it to work, fell free to zip up and attach some kexts : IONetworking.kext IO80211Family.kext IOPCIFamily.kext Thanks a lot, Bugs
AustinS
for the people with Asus computers.... do you know if asus locks out your computer if you try to install a different type of minipci wireless card in your Asus computer the reason I ask is because I have the Asus W7J which comes with the 3945abg which obviously is a no go in osx86. How difficult would it be to get it working in OSX?

animefan
Hm, I was thinking again , is the MacBook wireless card hardcoded to work with only MacBooks? Or can I take an existing Atheros card out of a MacBook and place it in my Vaio and have it work without any problems?
