Ok, I just got osx loaded up on my Intel 3.4GHZ machine onto an IDE hard drive.

During the installer, I was having no issues using my PS2 mouse and keyboard to work through the steps and get everything going. I had my Microsoft USB Mouse plugged in and my Logitech G15 USB keyboard plugged in, but neither were usable during the installer.

So, I went through, installed fine, then it rebooted, and now I am in OSX but I have no mouse or keyboard!

The PS2 ones will not work, and the USB Microsoft Mouse and USB G15 will not work either?

I have also tried a few other Microsoft USB mice, a targus travel USB mouse (that says it works with Mac), and a few other PS2 mice and keyboards.

What is going on? Any tips/ideas?

No Problem, sorry forgot to put it in:

10.4.5 OSX ISO (the one with Intel/AMD Support)

PC is a 3.4GHZ Intel LGA775 with Via Chipset (i think that might be the problem....)

Running off a IDE hard drive

Have tried the following combinations for KB/Mouse:

PS2 Keyboard, PS2 Mouse

PS2 Keyboard, USB Mouse

PS2 Keyboard, PS2 Mouse, USB Mouse, USB Keyboard

PS2 Keyboard, PS2 Mouse, USB Keyboard

USB Mouse, USB Keyboard

Maybe i am just striking out in that all my mice and keyboards are incompatible?

it was prepatched....

no, have not tried any other builds...i have slow internet and the torrent had a ton of leechers so it took like 5 days to download as well.....i dont really want to spend another 5 days of waiting to get an OLDER osx build

its wierd as well, i have tons of PCs around and only my main machien will work with the installer....all the other P4 S478 machines just freeze up with the gray box thingy before the installer can even run....

Ok, redid the install without the 4.5 upgrade.

Still does not work, but I did remember some things.

After the first reboot, the PS2 keyboard works and thats how i can get through the intial registration and stuff. Then, it gives the error that the ktext for the ps2keyboard has failed to load, i can hit spacebar and it will go away along with a ktext error for the audio (least of my worries right now).

Then, next time I reboot, I do not get the ktext error for the ps2 keyboard (just the audio) and the keyboard now does not work either.

I've got an idea!

At boot press F8 to send you into the Darwin Bootloader.

From there boot with the bootflags "-s -x -v".

After that follow the instructions here.

Good Luck

i will give that a try as well, thanks for the tips, and keep them coming if you have any more :gathering:

I will try and check these out as soon as i can

i kind of think it is wierd how the installer can work fine with the mouse and kb, but the actual os has so many problems with it....

another wierd thing, is why does it not say it cannot find the mouse or kb if it really cant find it? very wierd

ok, on the idea of changing that rc file, i actually tried it again tonight.

There is no way to press F8 while booting to get to the darwin loader. As soon as it boots, darwin says its loading and then it goes to the gray apple boot screen. I have tried pressing F8 and nothing happens

I CAN do the F8 thing when I boot from the DVD, but there i cannot get to the disk, it wants to modify the DVD instead of my hard drive, and it cannot modify the dvd as its not writable

So, how do i modify that rc file? Also, i have looked in transmac and that directory does not even excist on the hdd.....

Also, i looked in the bios and there is no way to disable ps/2

I'm pretty sure that you have to press ATL-Q to get out.

EDIT: I'm not sure what the command key on your keyboard would be so it's either ALT/CTRL-O to save and ALT/CTRL-X to exit. NOTE: Not ALT and CTRL at the same time.

Turned out it was Alt + 6 + X to exit and save

Ok, now still no keyboard or mouse, but there is a new message:

System Extension cannot be used:

ApplePS2Controller.kext was installed improperly or cannot be used

what if i add that to be unloaded and loaded

Try loading it manually.

Kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext

kextload /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

I'll see what I can think of and check back tomorrow.

Later,

FM

What if you tried replacing the ApplePS2Controller.kext.

I've attached a 10.4.3 version I found at the bottom of this post.

Burn it off on a CD.

Boot into OSX with F8 and the bootflags stated earlier.

Type cd /mount/NAMEOFCD

Once there type cp ApplePS2Controller.kext /System/Library/Extensions

Then type the following commands:

sudo diskutil repairPermissions /

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext

kextload /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/

Then reboot and see what happens.

ApplePS2Controller.kext.zip

EDIT: Also turn off legacy USB in your bios.
