Jogisingh
Hi, Posting on this forum for the first time. Have been following the HCL 10.5.2 wiki and have completely muddled about configurations. I'm into photography and would be using the machine for a lot of image processing... Considering external storage solutions was looking at a motherboard (MB) that has eSATA options. Had shortlisted on the Intel DP35DP but that seems to have been discontinued and is not available in India. Considering I would be trying a hackintosh for the first time, was looking for a MB that requires the least patching. Here is what is currently available and what I can afford: Motherboard: Intel DG33TL Processor options: Intel Q6600 Core2Quad 2.66 Ghz 8MB L2 Cache 1066Mhz (the wiki does not seem to be favourable on this) OR Intel E8500 Core2Duo 3.16Ghz 6MB L2 1333Mhz FSB GPU: NVIDIA chipset MSI NX 8800GT 512MB RAM: 4GB DDR2 800Mhz Hard-drive: Seagate 500 GB 7200rpm SATA 16MB Optical drive: Sony Dual Layer DVD writer - SATA Card reader: Sony 3.5" Floppy Bay Card Reader Cabinet: Cooler Master Elite with two 120mm fans Power supply: Cooler Master Elite 600W LAN: Realtek 8139 Would appreciate opinions on this. There is not too much of a price difference in the two processors shortlisted and suggestions on the same would be welcome. Any alternative suggestions on the motherboard shall be highly appreciated. I intend to also have XP on a dual boot setup. Thanks and Regards Jogi Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135018-wanting-to-end-research-and-start-building/ Share on other sites
SticMAC™
Firstly your topic heading in CAPS, why SHOUT!? Unless of course there is something wrong with the old keyboard and you're going to replace that too! The system you want to build seems perfect, with not too much hassles you should get everything to work! Good LUCK SticMAN Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135018-wanting-to-end-research-and-start-building/#findComment-956964 Share on other sites

The system you want to build seems perfect, with not too much hassles you should get everything to work! Good LUCK SticMAN Sorry about the CAPS. Was a tad bit confused with the New post dialog which had two fields on Topic and description. Which proccessor would you recommend? Would the Quad Core be a better choice? and would this particular processor be stable? SticMAC™
Yip! That Quadcore is BRILLIANT!! Don't change anything, unless the money runs out, then lastly reduce the processor, then the memory! MaaseyRacer
My only comments would be on the hard drive. Check local deals and online deal right before you go. I intended to go for a 500GB drive and when I finally purchased the 640GB drives were cheaper. Also the reviews are fairly positive on the 640GB seagate drives. LogicalUser
agreed, the price difference between 500gb and 640gb is about $10, and the 640gb models tend to be much newer design than most 500gb drives, and the increased platter density generally leads to faster performance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135018-wanting-to-end-research-and-start-building/#findComment-957467 Share on other sites
Jogisingh
Thanks for the suggestions, Will definitely check the pricing of the 640GB drive. I'm going to dedicate some more time to look for the DP35DP as I feel it is a better motherboard than the DG33TL and equally easy to build with.
