presence
Hi there, I was wondering if any of you have advice for me in regards to the hackintosh I am planning to build soon. These are the variables: Motherboard about 110$ BIOSTAR TForce TP35D2-A7 Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Video Card about 130$ MSI N9600GT-T2D512-OC Bfg Geforce 9800GT OC+ 635MHZ 512MB Processor about 230$ Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache Ram about 80-100$ for 2x2GB This is about 570$ canadian, shipped. I also want to get a new power supply, but am unsure of the voltage required any suggestions? I was thinking of spending about 80-100$ more for a 600W+ power supply. Since I already have have the other hardware required I am looking at a max price of 700$ for what I think to be a great system. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, please feel free to comment as I would like to order my parts before tomorrow. So far, I have my heart set on the gigabyte mobo and the bfg video card. I basically want to run the latest version of Leopard and from what I have read, these 2 components are very well supported. Thank you... You should be good with them for parts the power supply if getting dual rail design make sure that you get 18a+ on each rail from a quality name brand maker like Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax, Thermaltake, OCZ. No no-name cheap POS it is the most important piece in the system and get something with the Active PFC if you can afford it with a single rail design you would want 30a+ on it. You can probably get away with ~500w my system in my sig uses around 400w fully loaded cores both monitors on according to my Kill-A-Watt meter the system itself uses under 300w loaded. Would something like the RAIDMAX AURORA 2 RX-600F 600W ATX12V suffice? MacUser2525
Would something like the RAIDMAX AURORA 2 RX-600F 600W ATX12V suffice? Thanks again Never heard of them in that price range on Newegg I would go for either the Earthwatts EA500 or Basiq BP500UB totally leaning towards the Earthwatts because of the better 80+ rating on the power supply decent amount off retail price and free shipping today. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ProductList.a...eTabStoreType=1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134869-what-do-you-think-of-this-system-under-700/#findComment-956589 Share on other sites

MacUser2525
Thanks you for your advice, the last thing I want is a power supply crapping out on me... As for the parts, what is your opinion? Very grateful, presence Parts are good I had that Gigabyte board before I upgraded to the P45 version of it worked great the 9800gt never ran it but if I remember correctly it is just a re-badged 8800gt so should work I think. If your buying one of them series of cards with stock fan then you may want to consider after market cooling because OS X has no way to control the fan speed so you end up with a loud full on fan all the time, my 8800gt drove me crazy until I did the change. Edit: And don't forget nothing but SATA drives IDE causes nothing but problems once you have just over 3gb or more of ram in the system. nintendoguy
if you don't mind buying a new case, an Antec Sonata 3 would be a good choice. it has a 500 watt power supply and is a very nice case with lots of drive bays Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134869-what-do-you-think-of-this-system-under-700/#findComment-956613 Share on other sites
presence
I was wondering if I should buy an ASUS P5Q Pro or maybe a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L or DS3R instead since these boards are newer. I searched the forums and am still not sure if these work, and if they do, how much modding is necessary. I would go with a P5W a Gigabyte P35 chipset or some other board I know is compatible but the online stores I shop from do not have any in stock. I searched newegg.ca, directcanada.com and ncix.com with no luck The search feature on insanelymac doesnt work very well for me.... As for the 9800GT Nvidia graphics card, I think there is a solution to have it work, if not I believe one will be found soon. Thanks again your help is GREATLY appreciated.
