Hey all,

I've been working on a Athlon 64 3200+ w/ ATI X800XT and I've had some issues with it. So I am looking at getting the following for a x86 rig. I would appreciate any comments or if anyone has used any of these components and has good or bad things to say, that would be great.

  • Intel D805 2.66ghz CPU (I want dual core but don't have a ton of $$$, this seems like a good solution that I can upgrade from in the future.)
  • Intel D945GPMLKR Motherboard (Thinking mATX and want the built it GFX to fall back on. It also seems that all of the Apple Intel Macs are using the 945G chipset.)
  • Some Ram, at least 1GB( Brand yet to be determined.)
  • Brand yet to be determined nVidia 6600GT (If anyone has a brand or other model to recommend, what I really need it relatively high end graphics and it MUST run at 1680x1050, it would be appreciated. Think Aperture.)
  • Pioneer DVR109 DVD+/-RW DL
  • Seagate SATA Drives
  • Modded G4 or G5 Case (When it's done, till then, some generic case)

Since the motherboard is probably of the most concern, here are some links to it.

Newegg's D945GPM Page

Zipzoomfly's D945GPM Page

Once again, comments, concerns, etc. would be appreciated.

Hi, you are looking at basically the same config as I have. My machine is running 10.4.4 great, but the onboard intel sound (I have an intel brand board with Intel Hi def audio) would not work no matter what I did. I had to use an old creative card (plain jane AC97 audio). Your board may use a different audio than mine, so you may be ok with that. My only recommendation would be to get a high end ATI X series card, as this is what Apple is using in the iMacs. I have a 6600 card and it's VESA only. Funny thing with my setup is that if I install 10.4.5 it shows my CPU is a 4 ghz P4. I wish, lol.

Hope this helps.

Similar hardware here, check my sig for full specs. Running great, few minor annoying bugs running PPC apps, but just at the annoyance level, nothing serious. Average around 75 for my Xbench.

Well after digging through Intel's site a bit, I found an intesting tid bit on Intel's D945GPM Configuration page. It seems that the first two boards (LAD945GPMLR & LAD945GPMLKR) have The SigmaTel STAC9220 where the BOX/BLK D945GPMLKR (What both Newegg and Zipzoomfly seem to cary) has the STAC9223D which appears to be unsuported. The irony is that Newegg claims that it's the SigmaTel STAC9220. This makes me concerned that one might have some sound issues with this board.

Does anyone out there have this board?
