Hi,

I downloaded "Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86 Patched Bootable DVD" and basically followed the instructions set out below. Everything seemed to work except when I actually install OSX. After using the -v method I go onto erasing the partition (as step 11 shows) then onto installing OSX. But near the beginning (like 3mins in) there is an error and it asks me to restart the computer and try the installation again.

I've done the installation several times with slight adjustments. But no luck yet. :)

It feels sooo close but don't have a clue as to what the problem is.

Is there anyone who's done this help me try solve this? Some help would be really appreciated. ;)

My config is:

Dell Dimension 5100

Intel P4 HT 3.4ghz,

Windows XP Home SP2,

Western Digital 250GB Sata Hard drive (there is already 100GB of unpartitioned space in for other reasons) and Seagate 160GB ATA,

1GB ram,

Video and audio are integrated Intel ones

(Hope that's enough. I don't know how you can read the actual motherboard id and stuff)

Prep In windows

1. Have Partition Magic (version 8 prefered)

2. have space as much as you can I allocated 60GB to OS X 20GB for win XP and 500GB for XP as well but OS X reads (read only :( )NTFS just fine so 500GB is readable by both OS's

3.1st run partition magic and create (or resize) as much free space as you can after your windows partition and before any extended partition (thus creating 2 primary partitions) it is Crucial that the allocated non-formated space be AFTER the windows partition make sure the space is marked as Unallocated space

4. press apply and if required reboot to make the changes.

5. when done boot normally and click start then run type in "diskpart" (no quotes) press enter

6. type "list disk" press enter

7. type "select disk 0" press enter (if you are installing to same drive as windows)

8. type "list part" press enter you will notice you do not see the empty space you made in Partition magic

9. type "create partition primary id=af" then press enter

10. type "list part" press enter now you will see the the new partition OS X will be installed on.

11. type "exit" press enter

Burn the "MacOSX_10.4.4DVD patched 10.4.4.iso" with Nero choose burn image in nero from the recorder menu (I used Nero 7.0.1.4) (I tried Alcohol 120% but it said it wouldn't fit although Nero didn't care)

boot off the DVD..

once you get to the part where OS X asks where you want to install you must launch the Disk Utility to erase the partition you created earlier

once done OS X installs fine

not on the release i have it has an AMD enabler and booting failed if you didn't customize the install and uncheck the AMD enabler.

once installed enjoy. the Darwin Boot Loader defaults to OSX but if a key is pressed within 10 seconds it lets you boot to what ever drive Windows is on.

if Anyone knows how to get my resolution past 1024x768 i would appreciate it contact me at nyk0n at shaw dot ca i am a n00b at OSX but im loving it already.

cheers

Hi thanks for your reply. It doesn't state what the error is really. All I know is when it’s during the configuring installation part of the installation is states something like "an error has occurred" and then "restart your computer and try installing again". No specifics. I know this is weird. It gives me the error whether I use the -v or the normal full installation.

Is there anyway i can try and find out what the problems is?

What do you mean by:

try REBOOTING FROM WINDOWS this line:

-v -x -f platform=ACPI

Where do i enter those in windows?

Thanks for your help. :D

DarkSpine:

Getting angry because a hacked version of an O/S which was never designed to run on your hardware seems a bit counter-intuitive. Remember the golden rule: YMMV.

Further than that, you really need to provide detailed information on the specific problem you're facing, rather than shouting "it doesnt work, someone help". Nobody can help you unless you:

* provide details of your hardware configuration, including chipset, processor etc

* details of everything you've tried (eg -v booting, booting from non-SATA etc)

Also, do remember that searching the forums often provides a lot of helpful information.

The matter is an i/o error while reading the pkgs from the dvd , change dvd burner/reader, software, dvd-r brand or both. The best way in this case would be installing from vmware to avoid burning the img at all. If you still get that error in vmware then the iso you got is damaged

Hi guys. Thanks for your help. I understand what DarkSpine is going through. Munky what you said is true but in this case all it says is "error occurred". "Restart installation" (something like that). Nothing specific!!! That's the problem. :D

Myzar thanks for your reply. Changing "dvd burner/reader, software, dvd-r brand or both" is a very long process. But thanks for the advice. Maybe I can try using the vmware you suggested. Problem is I don't really know what it is or how to use it. Can someone please tell me?

(How do I get details of my hardware configuration, including chipset, processor and so on... thanks! ;))

google will reveal all.

I'm sure it will but I was hoping someone here would be nice enough to tell me. I mean we have a lot of people here who know a lot of stuff so share the knowledge pleaseeee. :gathering:

myzar had some solutions to the problem. Does anyone else???
