Cpgeek
I'm currently attempting to install 10.4.5 via a pre-patched maxxus dvd i got via torrent inside of vmware on my IBM Thinkpad t40p which uses a 1.6ghz bannias processor. every time i attempt to boot the cd image, i get an error message that says: *** VMware Workstation internal monitor error (bug 9297) *** The guest operating system you are running is using the Physical Address Extension (PAE) processor option. For more information about running PAE-enabled guest operating systems, please consult http://www.vmware.com/info?id=28 when i follow the link to the information article, it says to add paevm=true to the virtual machine file to work arround the issue. I make the change and it gives me the same error message. i attempted to move the paevm variable definition to various lines in the vmx file but i can't seem to make it work. FYI, i'm using freebsd as my "installed os" selection for the creation of the virtual machine. is another choice going to yield me some better results? are there any other options for me? thanks in advance, Cpgeek Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13147-pae-problems-when-installing-1045-in-vmware/ Share on other sites

dave911la
hey bro. i have the exact same problems and posted somthing with no response. its seems that either people in the forum have no idea how to fix it or if anyone does they are too damn lazy to respond. i mean i have been to so many different forums for hacking phones, etc and everyone is very helpful and everyone contributes. the community of people here suck! Eskurza
try force enabling PAE for windows and use WMware in normal mode. You have to add /PAE to boot.ini Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13147-pae-problems-when-installing-1045-in-vmware/#findComment-86635 Share on other sites

Eskurza
Assuming you have windows Xp, Go to System properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> Settings -> Edit this opens the boot.ini for editing.. the last line should look like something like this : multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /PAE /NoExecute=OptIn Edit and restart.. Now, when you go to System properties you should see The Physical Adress Extensions enabled. hope this helps PS: you can easily remove /PAE from the boot.ini to turn this off Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13147-pae-problems-when-installing-1045-in-vmware/#findComment-86749 Share on other sites

Eskurza
if you can not enable pae for windows, chances are you have a Banias chip in which the Pae Support is Broken. I suggest that you use a sofware like Everest to make sure PAE support is detected. If you have a broken pae, It is not possbile to install OSX hope this helps. dave911la
well i already installed OSX normally on a differet partition and can load into fine. its jsut that sometimes i dont wanna restart just into OSX and wanna mess with it within VMware but that is when i get the PAE error so obviously i must have PAE if i was able to instal in normally. I am pretty sure that the 1.7ghz is the dothan (sp?) chip. anyhow i added that line in my boot.ini with still no luck and dont wanna buy everest (nor can i find it anywhere to download) to test it. any more ideas? jodo
You can install OSX natively also with broken PAE support. But VMWare does not let you install or boot with broken PAE support. The problem is that vmware reacts that way and does not let you continue, not that OSX requires fully working PAE support... Nickhamm
I had this problem too, but I got around it even though my system was not PAE enabled. I opened upo the VMX file (the virtual machine configuration file) in Notepad or WordPad and I added the line: paevm=true Once I saved it, it worked just fine, unfortunately MacOS still kernal panicke don me, but it got rid of the PAE issue.
