Max99
Hello, everyone. I am having a bit of trouble with partitioning off a section of my HD in order to install an OSx86 program and I've run in to a bit of a problem. Seems as if, a while back, I decided to merge my entire harddrive in to a single partition. I'm trying to create a new one (Using Vista) but I've run in to a hitch. For some odd reason, I have a very (very) small unallocated section of my HD (9 MB haha). I'm trying to shrink the larger section (approx. 186 GB) so that I can allocated the minimum 6 GB to dedicate to Leopard. But the shrink option under the disk management program in Vista will only give me 4 GB. Is there some sort of program I can download in order to relieve this problem? I read on the wiki about Partition Magic 8 but it doesn't seem to be cooperating with Vista (32-bit, if that makes a difference). Thanks you very much! -Max Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/131037-parition-configuration-problem/ Share on other sites
TomBuntu
You can try downloading Ubuntu live CD and run gparted. I am not familiar with Vista partitioner. -Tom Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/131037-parition-configuration-problem/#findComment-929101 Share on other sites
Max99
Does the CD have to be burned or can it be just mounted with Daemon Tools/Nero? Suprjacob
Has to be burned. Your computer will boot from the CD. BTW get the "GParted Live CD" <- Google that. Much smaller than the Ubuntu CD, and works better as well. Max99
Thanks for the help. I've been trying to extend/shrink the current partition and the unallocated space but it has convinced me more and more that Microsoft is releasing broken OS's. It's absolutely ridiculous. Lord_Richard_2
Boot to the vista disc and then goto startup repair. Or you could try changing the boot flag. When you partition and have a ne wpartition before vista partition it changes its location, so you use startup repair to change the bcd to point to the new locations. Its all automatic.
