Why is AMD patch needed? AMD64 w OSX 10.4.3

Ok, was able to get the AMD64 up and running with no patch using the 10.3 that was posted not to long ago on a user usenet group.

I have a M Audio card, but it doesn't seem to work, I looked at their (Midiman) drivers and it appears you have to have a 10.4.4 update which I have yet to do.

The mother board is a Gigabyte K8NS Ultra, chipset nvidia. I use a old 3com ethernet to get online.

I also download the nvidia drivers but this didn't seem to work, I have a Geforce 5200 and I can not get it to be recognized so the picture is ok, but no split screen (i have dual monitors). I also have a Radeon 9800 Pro, placed that in and everything was pretty choppy, of course, I didn't try the 9800 with any driver updates, still learning about the extentions.

Any advice is appreciated in order to get sound (M-Audio 2496 - upgrade needed fromm 10.3 to 10.4?) and split screen either nvidia 5200 or Radeon 9800. Also, I haven't used any of the patches for this 10.3 install, it installed DIRECT to HD after formatting the HD, so why is there a AMD patch?

It seems one of the familar websites is down again (it wasn't a few days ago) wondering when it will pop up although I did find another that has some updates.

The second thing is, what about my Toshiba Laptop?>It's a Intel 1.6 Centrino, 915chipset and the SounMax audio which all seem to be in spec according to this one particular website. The model is a Toshiba A4.

The very last thing is with VISTA delayed again, why doesn't apple release the OS? Doesn't apple really make their $$$ from iPOD? One would think that it makes good sense as compared to PC's MAC hardware (although growing) is far below PC's one would think SJ would make a fortune releasing it. Of course, all they would have to do is make sure the user has certain specs (Intel chipset, ATI, etc) and it would be a no brainer.

Thanks for the listen! ;)

Apple won't release the OS because Apple is a hardware company cleverly disguised as a software company. So by not releasing the Mac OS, Apple protects its revenue source and keeps from going bankrupt.

The profit margin for the Mac OS disk you possess (and Ma**u$ hacks) has a small profit margin compared to a complete Macintosh system. In order for Apple to make a profit on the Mac OS, one of two things must happen: price increase or massive volume increase. The massive volume increase won't happen, because people seem to like their Microsoft insecurity blanket. A price hike won't happen either without pissing off your established customer base.

Try not to post the same thing in two seperate posts! Also, this is better suited in the Hardware sub-forum. :(

Also, most drivers from your hardware manufacturer will *not* work on OS X, because they were not designed to work with the x86 architecture. In other words, they'll work on Macs, but not your regular beige box PC. As for your nVidia card, have you tried the drivers from the Macvidia project? Not sure if your card is specifically supported, but you could take a look here.

Good luck!

Sorry bout that MrBond..

Yes, I took a look at that, my Geforce is a 5200 which I got for audio work (no fan, passive heat sink), my other card is a Radeon 9800 pro...in Apple preferences, they show up as PCI not AGP which is wrong.

Anyway, after looking at that link, I have NO IDEA at all what that means and how to do that. I think there needs to be a Set Up, step by step for Max OSX86 for dummies! :) As I haven't a clue on what that means and how to impliment those commands.

Further, with the 9800, I get worse performance, mouse dissapears for a second, choppy resolution.

My goal (then audio) would be to use some drivers to get a good resolution as well as split screen output. Then I will work on the audio. Right now am torrent the 10.4.5 in hopes this may solve some issues. Not sure it will. I have 10.4.3.

I would buy a mini but it's very underpowered and doesn't offer split screen of course! :)
