declan
I found if you install os x second you will than be able to use the darwin boot loader to select which disk to boot, simply when you install select disk utility, select to hard drive you want to use, erase it, then you can select that as the drive to install. Intel Coretelo
Following is the easy way pal : 1. Set your HDD as primary master and primary slave (connection to HD0 Port) 2. Set your DVD as secondary master (connection to HD1 Port) 3. Install XP on your HD 1 (primary master), once it is installed restart, boot to your XP (you shall press F8 and select your primary master HD) 4. In XP click START, select RUN, type CMD and you go into the DOS BOX 5. In DOS BOX type DISKPART, type LIST DISK to see you have 2 disks (they should be DISK 0 and DISK 1), then type SELECT DISK 1 (your primary slave), type LIST PARTITION and it shows no partition as the partition is not available yet. 6. Type CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY ID=AF and on successful creation a message pop ups telling you you have created new primary partition. 7. Type LIST PARTITION and you can see now that you have 1 partition called as UNKNOWN. 8. Type EXIT, then EXIT to leave diskpart and the dos box and get back to you WinXP GUI 9. Insert your Mac osx DVD Installer to the DVD drive, restart WinXP, reboots, press F8 and select your DVD drive to start installing mac osx86. 10. Install your mac osx86 on your primary slave HD. 11. Once the mac osx86 finishes installing it boots, press F8, select your WinXP HD. 12. In winxp, click START, select RUN, type CMD and you go into the DOS BOX 13. In DOS BOX, type DISKPART, type LIST DISK, type SELECT DISK 1, type LIST PARTITION, type SELECT PARTITION 1, type ACTIVE and a message pop ups : THIS PARTITION HAS NOW MADE ACTIVE. 14. Type EXIT, EXIT to leave diskpart and dos box and get back to your WinXP GUI 15. Restart WinXP, it reboots, press F8, select your primary slave HD, and it continues to boot Mac osx86 and finishes mac os86 installation. 16. Welcome to Mac OSX86 world and enjoy your new Mac OSX86 10.4.4 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12824-mac-on-a-empty-hdd/#findComment-82113 Share on other sites

It boots from the DVD. How far can you go in the install process, before you have problems. And what is the first problem you incur? kaos Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12824-mac-on-a-empty-hdd/#findComment-82452 Share on other sites

FlyingHat
Not to point out a weird bug, but in the past when installing 10.4.4 I have gotten the OSX bootloader to recognize my Windows installation and boot to it without any additional configuration. Don't ask me how, I don't know. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12824-mac-on-a-empty-hdd/#findComment-82788 Share on other sites

Im out of ideas What I have been recommending to others is replacing the mach_kernel from your install DVD to the root level of your non booting partition. This DVD kernel has all patches applied. I had the problem of a black screen with the white cursor and it was a result of only having the base-patch applied to the kernel. I do understand this is happening from a newly installed system. What version of the 10.4.4/5 install DVD are you using. Myzar's is very good. Back up your existing mach-kernel, so you can replace it if these suggestions don't work. kaos Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12824-mac-on-a-empty-hdd/#findComment-82848 Share on other sites
