I foud the problem with mine was all in the jumper settings on the DVD drive i was installing off. Basically, in my experience, OSX installer cant handle drives being set to "Auto"... Needs them to be properly set to "Master" or "Slave", and to be plugged in to the corresponding connection on the IDE cable. Try that out. Hope it works. Oh... Out of interest... KoL... KoL Posted March 22, 2006 Author Share Posted March 22, 2006 well I set my DVD-Writer to Master and the DVD-Rom to Slave and I still have the still waiting for root message. This is how my hard drive and dvd are on my computer: DVD-Writer is Master and DVD-Ron is Slave and both are using the same cable My main 250GB Hard drive (XP) is SATA The other 80 GB hard drive (OSX) is ATA and I installed it yesterday with a new cable. I installed Myz.iso using VMware to the 80GB. and everything installed fine but when I restart and try to boot to the OSX drive I get the 'still waiting for root device'. I did something wrong?? djeglin Posted March 22, 2006 Share Posted March 22, 2006 Sounds like maybe something in your SATA configuration isnt playing ball man... I would take a look at the drives and make sure that any jumper settings that may or may not be there are set as well... if they are both on their own cables then you'll be looking at setting them both to "Master"... If that doesnt work, check your BIOS settings... It may be something in the SATA settings in there... I'm not entirely sure what, maybe if you continue having problems you can drom me an MSN message and I'll see if I can think of anything. (Shame I cant get any network service in my OSX machine... means I still have to use my Windows PC most of the time, as I need the internet for research and client management!) Im installing right now OSX on my laptop without any problem but in my desktop have been a pain. No sound and only 1024x768 resolution but I have internet connection Now I want it on my desktop. swamyg1 Posted March 23, 2006 Share Posted March 23, 2006 I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM... the funny thing is that I PREVIOUSLY HAD OSX INSTALLED AND RUNNING! I tried editing the kext for my video card and wasn't able to boot up again, so I thought I would reinstall but all I am getting is this NO sybol with the white apple background. I haven't done anything differently, does anybody know what gives? Crustie Posted March 24, 2006 Share Posted March 24, 2006 i had the same problem and fixed it. but this was after it had installed, i edited my boot.plist. I think it has to do with the hdd. if your booting and the dvd when ur installing. Alls i did when i had problems booting was using the rd=diskXsY -v -x -s -y in the command line and hitting enter. The X and Y you replace with ur numbers depending which drive and partiton it is on. I hope im not confusing any one.
