Ezrael
hey all, before the dual booter was released I saw a few threads on various forums by students at law schools very interested in booting into XP. most law schools use a program by ExamSoft to administer tests (if you want to type them, otherwise you whip out the old legal pad), and it only runs on windows computers. I'm about to buy my laptop for law school, and was curious if anyone has gotten it to work on a MacXP computer yet? From what i've read, the program requires the computer to restart before running in order to prevent any other programs from running, and since the MBPs appear to have issues crashing when they restart, I hoped to hear some confirmations of success before plunking down my money. thanks! suleiman
I'm waiting for a more reliable version of XP to see if the exam-soft software actually runs. The only thing I'm holding out for right now is working graphics. But i'm definitely not relying on the macbook coming through for me. I've got an XP-based machine the law school gave me, so I'll be relying on that for the exams methinks. weldon
Any update on this? Has anyone gotten ExamSoft to work on an intel Mac? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12609-anyone-else-in-law-school-examsoft-question/#findComment-104554 Share on other sites
non sequitur
well, seeing as how the post was from the XOM method and ive been booting in and out of windows constantly using boot camp for 2 or 3 weeks, there's no doubt in my mind that it would work. denied
As long as it will reliably boot to XP you're fine, as I recall from examsoft it just replaces the shell explore.exe with their own program. Speaking of--figured I was the only law school nerd even getting near osx86. good to know there's a few more out there! My school abandoned examsoft this year, thank god. I was always scared the thing was going to crash or do something else weird in the middle of my test. nathansvt
well, I got examsoft running in XP on my MBP. but I made the mistake of showing it off to the IT department who promptly issued an all-student bulletin saying anyone who brings a mac into an exam will be expelled from the exam and failed for the course. So, I'm back to taking exams on my 7 year old dell. But, I was able to talk the dean into creating an investigatory committee for next year. at this point, it's a policy issue, not a technical one Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12609-anyone-else-in-law-school-examsoft-question/#findComment-109911 Share on other sites
