Daganl
Hello, my name is Roy. I have an HP Pavilion laptop that I have used for entertainment and such. But since then I've been really busy working on macs, I only know how to use macs and its features. I like mac much better because of its stability and reliability, but of course there are some things a pc can do, that a mac can't. Such as gaming, so I heard bout this project from a couple of friends, they told me that I could install mac os x tiger on to my laptop AND have windows xp. So I'm new at this, I will be leaving for work in a couple of minutes. I wonder if anybody here has some time maybe to guide me through the steps to install mac os x and windows xp for a dual boot system. I heard My specific model laptop can run flawlessly with mac os x tiger, video card, sound, even networking works. Are there any volunteers to help me do this specifically on my kind of laptop? My Specs: HP Pavilion ZD8000 P4 3.2ghz HT 512 mb ram 80 gb hardrive (5400 rpm) ATI Radeon X600 256mb My current resolution is 1600x1200(aprx) I would greatly appreciated if anyone could take me through the steps on here. I have no clue what "kext" and "chain0" etc. means. Thanks for your time and patience. I will be coming home from work today hoping to find some kind volunteers Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12554-help-installing-a-dual-boot-system-for-hp-pavilion-zd8000/ Share on other sites

I heard its not that hard, but im not really technical, so iwas just hoping to see if anyone on this board could just guide me through, and plus once my laptop is working, this could be a guide for other users for their laptops with similar hardware Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12554-help-installing-a-dual-boot-system-for-hp-pavilion-zd8000/#findComment-79785 Share on other sites
fireshark
I think all your hardware is supported. Get the DVD. Sorry, cant help with that. go to the piratbyran and search, 10.4.4/10.4.5 its a file something 4.38 (cant be more specific). Burn this and stick it in your comp. reboot. Daganl
Okay so after partitioning and using dd to copy tiger over to the new partition.. i get this "hdf- partition error" or something like that.. i thought it was because i did something wrong.. so after redoing the steps.. i came back to the same thing.. now reading some guides.. it says to copy from a darwin cd.. when in fact i dont know what that means because it never even told me to get that cd.. ? lol anywayz im stuck here so if anyone could help id gladly appreciate it.. also, i did not want to use grub.. instead i sed osl bootloader(easy to use, self explanatory) i hope thats okay..right now im on my windows partition, but when i try to boot up the os x partition.. it just says "hdf- partition error" or something like that... thanks.. The partition needs to be marked as a bootable partition, otherwise it will not load. Toxic Waste
Honestly, it's not that hard. First off, get the Myzar DVD, as it's pre-patched and everything for most configurations (it's what I used on my zd7000). Burn it, boot it, and install it. It just works... and is much easier than the old tiger-bz process (which I believe requires subsequent patching anyway). You will need a partition manager to prep the drive for OSX, unless you plan on removing your exisitng OS in the process. As for kexts and chain0, you really do have to read up and learn how to use them to get it to work. Remember, this isn't a "Released product" or anything, and it is a hack-job, for the most part. For this reason, you really need to know a bit more about what you are doing, and not expect it to be plug-and-play... though the Myzar DVD is pretty darned close. EDIT: To recap the process: 1) Clear a partition for installation. (Set it to type "0xAF".. though this didn't make it work for me.) Finally make the blank partition bootable. (The process for this varies depending on the tool you use... so I can't be more clear than this.) 2) Boot the DVD 3) I had to now use the disk manager tool, and format the blank partition for OSX, as the 0xAF didn't seem to work for me. Be sure to pick the right partition... 4) Install to the new partition (self explanatory, once you see the install screens) 5) Reboot and you should boot into OSX with no issues. 6) Extract chain0 to the root of the XP drive 7) Edit boot.ini to use chain0 for "Mac OSX" (there are more detailed instructions on how to do this on the forum) 8) USe your disk partitioning tool to restore the XP drive as bootable (the boot.ini edits will allow you to select your OS at boot) Done. Daganl
okay a few things.. i took the myzar image.. and i burned it out to a dvd.. but at the very veyr end of burning the dvd.. it says some error, and that it could not complete the burning.. i tried this with 2 kinds of software to burn it.. is it just me? also.. i just TRIED to boot off it, and it worked.. darwin loaded.. and it asked me i wanted to install it in darwin.. then i press enter.. then it goes to the apple screen.. the light grey background with the dark grey apple logo and the little loading graphic below it doing the rotation thing.. but i left it for 10 minutes.. and felt like nothing was going on.. cuz it would just continue to do that.. is this right? am i suppose to leave it? i thought it would boot into like an original disc.. instead it just stays there at that screeen.. is it suppose to do that? much help is greatly appreciated.. mmxxiii
Hi I'm dowloading the version Macosx X86 10.4.4 with 10.4.5 update Myzar (MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso) do you know if its work good? ... I also have zd8000 and I want to do dula boot with min WinXP instaled I used that image to install on my zd8000, and it worked for me. After about an hour of not being able to boot anything, I was able to get the dual boot working. I reccommend you folow one of the guides listed in the wiki, but be prepared to problem solve if things don't work as expected. If you don't know how to solve boot problems, you should probably not try to install OSx86. Best of luck, mmxxiii PS - if you do try and have problems, I'm sure someone here (perhaps even I) can offer you advice. MacOSXx86Newbie
I would be interested in how you solved the Dual Boot problem. Because I don't want to waste another laptop harddisk.
