mikkel Andersen
I just got an used Macbook 2G duoCore whit 60Gb HD, i got a external FW disk but i really want to keep it portable. It's born whit a ATAPI MAT{censored}ADVD-R UJ-857 disk. Is it possible to swop it with a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 ST9200420ASG/200 GB/2.5"/SATA-300/7200 rpm/16 MB buffer?, or does anybody out here have knowledge or experience of other 7200rpm(16oGb+) disk who will work? I really like this COOOOOL site Hope there is sombody who knows. Mikk

mikkel Andersen
Sorry! Its a 55.89 GB SATA Intel ICH7-M AHCI/Model ST96812AS disk So both is SATA disk, so there should not be any problems?
plugwash
The drive has the right interface and is physically the correct size (watch the thickness when buying drives for macbooks, there are two common thicknesses and macbooks will only take the thinner ones) so it should be fine. SticMAC™
You should also consider the issue around the higher heat generated by the faster spinning drive. I remember, although it might not be applicable here that there used to be an issue in the iMacs that you could not put a faster spinning drive in due to the fact that the system couldn't handle the heat dissipation! MaaseyRacer
It is not an issue. Those drives do not get hot enough to affect the computer, unless defective. I ran a 7200 RPM 100GB drive in my first gen MacBook no issues.

Those first gens ran a lot hotter than the Penryns so this should definitely not be an issue
