Ummm kenny your in the nix forum. this is Linux, gparted shows no drive in the drop down list.

But it is mounted.

Why not just use an OS like Windows that doesn't care about Linux permissions and then wipe the drive? Even if the drive doesn't show up in My Computer, it can still be found and erased from Disk Management (Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Computer Management >> Disk Management)

Was just offering a suggestion...because if it won't work in Linux due to permissions and you can't format it (why not use a GParted LiveCD to format it??) then your only choice is to use an alternate OS that ignores the permissions, even though I still find it hard to believe that the HD cannot be formatted by using a LiveCD or something.
