leopard successfully installed on this machine but after installation when i rebooted into leopard drive it doesn't goes past the screen where it asks to import user preferences from another mac or from somewhere on the hard drive. it shows me the welcome video and then choosing the language and place and keyboard layout but when it comes to import settings button when i choose to not import settings and go forward it hangs for a bit and then again starts to show me the welcome video and asking for the preferences.

The installation went fine without any errors.

During the installation I chose to customize the installation a bit and added kext for GMA X3100 and chose to install vlc media player.

i am tri-booting between hardy(ubuntu) and windows vista and (not working)Leopard and using GRUB as the bootloader.

leopard is on a 70 GB partition

my specs

Dell Vostro 1200

C2D @ 1.6GHz

SATA 160 GB

ICH9

1 GB RAM @667MHz

you can ask me if you want any other info.

please help ASAP :(

It is a common problem if you do not have a usable network connection. Search the forum for "welcome loop". There are lot of solutions. Enabling Serial Port or firewire in BIOS and booting is one solution.

thanks gujal :D you got me out of this problem

i used sudo to log in and then changed the root password, then made the AppleSetupDone file and then logged in as root and then made another regular user account.

now i have another problem.

the logging in is fine without any problems but after logging in it shutdowns automatically after 2 minutes without any prompt and it doesn't do that properly even. it just switches of itself in a flash like someone has switched off the power. and as this time if

laptop is running on ac then you need to unplug the power chord and then replug it or the laptop's power button doesn't work.

i guess this is because of some acpi related drivers. hope you will tell me the fix soon

please help

So all you had to do is boot with -v and it stopped rebooting randomly? (Just FYI this is caused by heat, OSX not turning on the fan, temperature control is borked on many notebooks). I have the same install DVD as you and the same laptop (Vostro 1200) and I have yet to complete an install due to random reboot/shutdown from heat. Anyone else have sucess on a vostro 1200?

i was also experiencing random reboots. have you tried using -v. and i don't think its because heat as the fan should turn on irrespective of the OS.

you should also try using -x during boot and even try using another kernel during boot ,you can try the vanillla kernel also as you must have a core 2 duo.

you never know what can work

Hi Raj,

I discovered your post here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...&pid=908417

regarding the vostro 1200. I'm currently unable to get my network card working on my vostro 400 with osx86 kalyway installer. I actually went through the process you recommend in your vostro 1200 article but that did not help. I was interested to know if you knew of way to get the network card working in the vostro 400? Also, audio is not working but not a huge concern unless you have a fix for that is well?

Thanks,

B
