greenuns
Hi, I kinda happily using 10.4.3, it's a Celeron 331 box with Intel 945G board. I see that people are upgrading to 10.4.5 but is it really worth it? Since a lot of people are having more and more problems with their hardware after upgrading to 10.4.5. I mean is it noticabley faster? Is it worth it? Any opinions would be great. Suser
Yes it is because 10.4.3 is a beta/development version. 10.4.4 and 10.4.5 are final Intel release with more options and hardwaresupport. The only thing you need from 10.4.3 are extensions that don't work on 10.4.5. Copy them to the new version and your hardware will work again like before. taek4
Does anybody know why there is written "Apple Development Platform" on my 10.4.5 installation (In the system profiler)? Here is a screenshot: I've upgraded from 10.4.3 developer - could that be that the reason? Ah and why I havent SSE3? I've got a Venice CPU which supports SSE3! I Don't know whether it was listed in 10.4.3, but I think so! bofors
Does anybody know why there is written "Apple Development Platform" on my 10.4.5 installation (In the system profiler)? This is because OS X does not recognize your hardware as being a specific type of Apple computer like an iMac or whatever. Ah and why I havent SSE3? I've got a Venice CPU which supports SSE3! I Don't know whether it was listed in 10.4.3, but I think so! This SSE3 issues is a by-product of the patching used in your 10.4.5 installation. It has been reported that despite SSE3 being missing in the list of CPU features, it is still being used. You should be able to verify this by comparing your XBench score from 10.4.3 to 10.4.5. If SSE3 is being simulated, your XBench score should be noticably lower. A related issue is the mislabing of CPU speed, for example 2.8 GHz Pentium D's have been stated to be 4 GHz chips. taek4
I've got 81 points with an AMD 3000+ Venice, OCed @2,37GHz. I selected only the CPU test, so that's the result of the CPU. I don't know the old score from 10.4.3, but I'll install 10.4.3 on my second harddisk Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12206-is-1045-really-better/#findComment-76859 Share on other sites
