No sound in avi file

HI all,

 

I have a slight problem with the sound in avi or mkv file.

I have installed kalyway 10.5.2 then 10.5.3 comboupdate and finally 10.5.4 from apple software update.

I have the sound working but when I play avi or mkv files, nothing at all.

I have installed the xvid and divx codec for mac as well as windows media player for mac and the related plugins.

I think the problem might be because the audio tracks in these files are digital (ac3).

any idea?

Try playing it with VLC.

i usually play avi files with VLC or mplayer

Tried with VLC before that problem.

VLC simply opens and crashes

As for mplayer, no sound.

Install Perian. It has most codecs for Quicktime and your avi should work fine in QuickTime Player

Thanks for your help.

I reinstalled kalyway since I had other problems with video card and installed perian as well during the installation process.

All my avi files play perfectly now.
