gamedtx
Ok, so I have the newest bootable dvd 10.4.5... I made a partition using "create partition primary id=af", I boot into the setup with the install dvd... It dosent detect any harddrive in the setup, so I go to diskutility, and the only thing setup sees is the DVD-RW dive. What did I do wrong..? (check pics below) specs: Amd 64 3000+ 1GB ram Seagate 160GB IDE hdd nvidia fx5500 I used this guide to help me: Installation Instructions (According to my experiences) Preparation (Before Booting Mac OSX) 1. You need a program called "Partition Magic" 2. You need a working OS (Windows for example) 3. You need at least 6.5 GB of free space 4. First run Partition Magic and free diskspace by resizing the amount of space you want to use for Mac OSX (Do not create a partition, make sure it says "Unallocated space") 5. Press "Apply" and close Partition Magic 6. Click Start-->Run and type "diskpart" (enter) 7. Type: list disk (enter) 8. Type: select disk (the disk you want to install Mac OSX to) For example "select disk 0" 9. Type: list part (and you will see the partitions you have, you will not see the unallocated space you made earlier) 10. Type: create partition primary id=af (enter) 11. Type: list part (you will see your new partition where OSX will be installed) (enter) 12. Type: exit (enter) Installation (Booting the DVD) 1. Boot the DVD by restarting you computer with the DVD in the drive 2. An Apple logo is going to show for a while...loading....loading....loading.... 3. A plain blue screen is going to show for a while...loading....loading....loading.... 4. Finally the installations instructions comes up, just follow them. 5. When you get to the part where you have to choose the target to install Mac OSX you will probably not be able to see a free diskspace to install it to. 6. In the menu above choose diskutility and choose the correct partition (the one you created) on the left. Select Format (Mac OS extended Journal) 7. Now you are fully prepared to install, the target is now available to select and install to. Just follow the instructions and you are set! My Experiences 1. The ethernet card is only working when ever it wants to. 2. Graphics is limited (When you first enter MAc OS X you have a resolution at 1024x768) 3. If you have a widescreen monitor the picture will be stretched out 4. Because of the limitations of graphics, the DVD player in Mac OS X crashes when opened, as do all kinds of videoplayback programs. 5. If you are a laptop user, you will not find any batterymonitor and there is no powersavings options like hibernation and so on. 6. No support for my wireless (WIFI) card Other than this, everything works very well and stable. Solutions to problems: There is a solutions to the graphics problem, but in an early state and has some bugs, like mouse tearing. (which means that when you move a window there will be some pixeldistortion at the place where the mouse arrow was) You can find it here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...l=inspiron+6000 A solution to your Broadcom 440 problem is solved here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...hl=Broadcom+440 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12172-no-hdd-detected-in-diskutility/ Share on other sites

Veeoh
cool - it can be a bit tricky using partitions. When installing have only the mac drive in the system - seems to work better (imo anyway) Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12172-no-hdd-detected-in-diskutility/#findComment-77548 Share on other sites
Forta
I have the same problem. Running AMD X2 3800+, Raptor SATA HD, Seagate SATA HD, 2gig ram, asus A8N SLI Deluxe motherboard I tried different configurations on both Hard Drives. On my Primary SATA hard drive, my first partition is WIN XP PRO. Through Partition Magic I created an unallocated space of 25 gb after this primary partition. I then used the Diskpart util in de MS command prompt to make partition from which I want to boot. Any thougths ? thrunner
Hi gamedtx: You are using an IDE (probably on a nForce motherboard?) so that shouldn't be a problem. The install probably doesn't like the HFS+ partition beyond the 128GB boundary. You could try to repartition it as: 80GB WnXP NTSF, 60GB HFS+ Apple, the rest FAT32 as a partition readable and writable by both OSes. Hi Forta: Until the recent AppleVIAATA kext modification, SATA was NOT supported in the install for your nForce motherboard. There is supposed to be a new install that supports nForce SATA install.
