I tried several version now and all is about the same results, various kernel panic messages. First my desktop a new HP a6552f Quad6600, cpu socket 775 2.4ghz intel, 4 GB memory, Nvidia 9500GS video, Hard drive 640gb sata.

The versions and messages I get: Kalyway 10.5.2 (hang on Kernel 9.2 ....., Jas 10.5.4 , Idneb 10.5.4 ( Hang on first apple image comes with a message later you need to start the computer), , iatkos 10.5.4 ( hang on : Extension "com.apple.driver.acpi_smc_PlatformPlugin)

Also tried with all versions the advanced user options: (_v _x _f _s Rd:disk0s1 or 2.....) same results, no good.

I read alot: more confused.... but knowing better the software and installation. Forget to mention that I have Vista on my hard drive: I did partition it, the second part format FAT32 for MacOSx and primary.

Note: is it good idea to format the whole drive fat 32 for MAc only?

Please any help to by pass these kernel panic?

I was also wondering is the process to tell the software were to be install on witch drive done during the installation or need to be done before and how?

First you need to tell us in more detail about:

(i) your BIOS settings for IDE/SATA

(ii) your DVDRW.....is it SATA or PATA

(iii) was your install DVDs burned at ≤ x4 and does it have the correct MD5 checksum?.... and (iv) your Installer DVD Customize selections

Regarding recommended BIOS settings check for the following (not all options may be present BUT tell us what options you do have):

Configure SATA as "AHCI" or Serial-ATA Configuration [Enabled]

JMicron SATA / PATA Controller [Disabled].....if JMicron present.....unless it works for you [Enabled].....but JMicron is known to cause problems for some....but JMicron patches for OS X Install DVDs are now appearing......

JMicron Controller Mode [AHCI]....if present.....

Execute Disable Bit [Enabled]

ACPI APIC Support [Enabled]

ACPI Suspend Mode [s3] or [s1] or [s1 and S3]

As regards the HDD formatting you can have both Vista and OS X.....partition hard drive as MBR with 2 primary partitions.....you can have Vista on first as NTFS and OS X on second as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

When booting from install DVD, at the boot: prompt type "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v" or if that does not work try "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 platform=X86PC -v" ....... :(

I did all what you said and NO go ;) . In the Bios, there is only setting for SATA1 it was RAID and I try AHCPI, there is no setting for ACPI or hard drive controller. i try entering the "cpus=1 memmax=2048....." did not work, system hang with iatkos v4 on : Extensions ..... and Idneb and kalyway on: darwin kernel version 9.2.0:.........

please any other help :D

Note: can you tell me when you enter options like this "cpus=1" do you enter it with quotation or no, although I tried with and without, but just curios?

You enter "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v" without quotes.....

In BIOS under Advanced, check for one or more of the following and the assocaited options:

Local Bus IDE Adapter

Onboard SATA Adapter

Onboard PATA/SATA Adapters [both]

Onboard PATA/SATA Configuration [Enhanced Mode]

Also when installing OS X from DVD do not initially choose any VGA and audio options.....these can be sorted out later......

I have the same problem.

The worst problem is: In my BIOS is no option to change the SATA Mode to AHCI (But in Windows, the controller has AHCI in the name  )

Will there be any version in near future which doesn't need to change to AHCI?

Having AHCI in Windows (Vista?) means that the AHCI driver is preloaded or that if the laptop came with Windows preinstalled then AHCI may be an option in the BIOS......

A MOBO SATA controller chipset/BIOS combo may have these three modes of operation (OR may not have all three):

IDE mode setting : no AHCI and no RAID function

SATA mode setting : no RAID function but AHCI function (so sometimes SATA mode may be called AHCI mode)

RAID mode : both AHCI function and RAID function

so I suggest you try setting the onboard SATA control mode to RAID and see what happens.....

Have you checked out the latest BIOS here.....

I don't have any of the above in the bios, here is what I have:

under ADVANCE:

Primary Video Adaptor set to pci-e-x16

Ps/2 Mouse set to AUTO

On Board LAN set to Enable

On Board LAn Boot set to Disable

SATA1 controler set to RAID ( I did changed to AHCI)

On Board 1394 set to Enable

Also under POWER:

After AC Power failure set to Stay off

XD (Execute Disable) set to Enable

Virtualization Technology set to Disable

NOTE: I did update to the latest bios from HP today, no change

I did set at one time all the on board hardware to disable and did not work. :D Should I format the whole hard drive and make it only one partion fat 32 for MacOS or doesn't mater with this problem, because I do have two primary partition one active NTFS for Windows 300GB and the other primary fat32 for MacOS 250GB. What do you thing the next step will be, use the hammer ;)

Try using a USB keyboard AND mouse not PS/2 nor a mix of USB keyboard + PS/2 mouse or vice versa......can you disable PS/2 mouse in BIOS too....also disable onboard LAN and IEEE 1934 (Firewire) temporarily for the installation stage.....

For OS X if you have AHCI as a BIOS option then it should be used.....

A primary FAT32 partition can be formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)....so this should not be a problem....

Thank you for reply.

Yes, I have the latest BIOS. Just forgot to update my signature.

There's no option in BIOS to change the controller options. It's a really limited BIOS. I can create some screenshots for you if you want to have an closer look. Maybe I've got tomatoes on my eyes. ^^

Yes. It's Windows Vista. The OS has been preinstalled, but I crashed it and used the recovery function. So I think it's the same.

I did try disable completely the PS/2 mouse and everything else with it, also I did disable the dedicated video card and set it to the on board card, still stubborn.

I did check the motherboard visually, I find that the hard drive is connected on SATA0, the DVD drive on SATA1: So the SATA1 controller in bios is only for the DVD drive, nothing for SATA0 :P

I checked in Windows vista hardware device setting for the hard drive : it's set to RAID.

Yes screenshots may help us to figure out what BIOS options you can try.....see here for someone who has been successful with a similar system......

New info: I found that my motherboard IPIBL-LB have bios version 5.25. I was reading that guys have some problem getting to work with this version, but the older version would work great. If any one have the old bios version 5.12 or older let us know. Please :) . or if anyone knows if I can flash that board with different bios that give me more options.

This is the bios info that i have now:

BIOS Type: AMI

BIOS Date: June 16th 2008

BIOS ID: 64-0525-000001-00101111-061608-Bearlake-HPBEN000

BIOS OEM: BIOS Date: 06/16/08 11:02:10 Ver: 5.25 - 5.25

Chipset: Intel 29C0 rev 2

SuperIO: Unknown

Manufacturer: HP-Pavilion

Motherboard: KT378AA-A2L a6552f

Sico - there are quite a few people that are having the same problem - It is the bios version - We need to get a hold of a copy of the 5.12 version (We know this one works) I would think the 5.07 does as well -

** anyone know how to pull the bios from this board? or how to get a hold of an older HP bios ver. ? **

The HP/Compaq MOBO name is Benicia-GL8E (Asus IPIBL-LB) is quite similar to the Asus P5K-VM MOBO......so perhaps someone could mod the BIOS for the P5K-VM MOBO for use on the HP Benecia MOBO.......?

I wonder about it because of this post......

OK....lets see where we are....in your IDE Configuration sub-menu, you have both the WDC HDD and the HL-DT-ST DVDR set as IDE Master......can you make the WDC HDD an IDE Slave in BIOS?...also the HDD is a SATAII HDD......so are there SATA options in any BIOS submenus not shown....?

I would also temporarily disable onboard LAN Boot ROM......

No, I can't set the WDC HDD as Slave. And no SATA options show in this fu*** BIOS.

1. Do you have the option of making the DVDRW the Primary Master and the HDD the Third Master?

2. You may be able to install the AppleIntelPIIXATA kext driver by Dune for Intel ICHx chipsets (i.e. ICH0 to 8 and 9), which has been tested and is known to work on the Asus P5K, P5K-E and Asus P5K Premium. Apparently, this kext should work with all Intel ICH based chipsets : 965 DS3, P5B, P5K-SE, P5K-VM, P5K Pro etc. and works as well in IDE Enhanced Mode or in IDE Compatible Mode. The HDDs are UDMA enabled, and fully working without I/O errors, even when RAM ≥ 3GB. See Dune's thread on this driver....

3. Perhaps a search of the InsanelyMac fora and web via Google may find a more suitable BIOS you can flash the MOBO with......

4. I don't know if your HDD and/orDVDRW DeviceID and VendorID are in the Install DVD SATA driver or not.....

Sorry do not know what else to suggest at present..... :D

Haxi,

I used cpus=01 with sata1 AHCI and the software start loading until I get the screen to choose the language and bum.... no mouse no keyboard like frozen and before that I did get the end messages something like diskatribrition not mounting ....

I am using with the leoforallv3 10.5.2 . So what's happen?

1. Yes. I can try. But I'm scared of the problem that the BIOS wont recognise my HD again.

2. Thanks for the tipp

3. Can you give me some keywords to search?

You helped me the best out. If I have another question I'll return to you :P

Can you post a picture of the boot screen showing the text before and after the freeze messages.....
