evy41
My setup: -CPU: Pentium 4 3.4Ghz Prescott w/ HT. (pretty sure it's SSE3) -Mobo: Abit IC7-max3 -AGP: nvidia 5900se 128mb (or ati radeon 9800 pro, but haven't tried it yet) -(If any other info needed, let me know) I have tried iDeneb and iAtkos (10.5.4 versions) on my machine. I go through the packages to the best of my knowledge but I'm really unsure about which ones I absolutely need. I have successfully installed, but when I boot from the hard drive, it says darwin is starting, then a few lines, then a quick flash of a brighter screeen, and then automatic reboot. Do you suggest JaS 10.5.4? or leo4all? I need input especially with packages... NVinject and Titan I have tried together.. and it isn't working. THanks! smeggy
I think the first thing you need to do is to try and boot in verbose mode if possible (I have had some success just pressing the F8 key once the standard BIOS stuff has finished). If that doesn't work, you may want to get a copy of Kalyway 10.5.2 as I haven't found a motherboard it won't work with. Also, you shouldn't try a install too many packages on your first install. I would suggest that you keep the install as basic as possible at first to see whether you can get it to boot, then try adding extra packages and different kernels in subsequent installs until you get it right (it is unlikely you will get your first boot perfect - practice makes perfect!) Anyway, I hope this helps. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121574-ideneb-or-iatkos-on-sse3-pentium-4-machine/#findComment-860032 Share on other sites
perimbean
Do try looking for Kalyway 10.5.2 distribution. I've got success with Kalyway 10.5.2 with Pentium 4 HT cpu chipset and updated it to 10.5.4. callumo
Kalway 10.5.2 was terrible for my machine I just did a fresh install an hour ago ok go and get iAtkos 4i when you have to select your custimizations uncheck Darwin bootloader x86 don't check anything in stock files Under patches there should be like another darwin bootloader for non-efi systems check that as well as TOH Kernal Go along and select the drivers for your VGA and Network and so on The only main ones you need are iAtkos system Non-efi bootloader TOH Kernal Hope I helped Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121574-ideneb-or-iatkos-on-sse3-pentium-4-machine/#findComment-860103 Share on other sites
evy41
is updating kalway 10.5.2 to 10.5.4 going to be easy? I'll try iATkos again, too. Which version of AGPGart and which driver for my 9800pro? Can I see if it works without any video drivers or networking drivers? Is that the idea? evy41
Sometimes when I boot the DVD, it'll load with the apple logo, but "circle and cross" symbol comes up (similar to the no smoking symbol) over the apple logo. Make sure that your BIOS is set to AHCI if that is one of the SATA Controller options......and check for Execute Disable Bit [Enabled] ACPI APIC Support [Enabled] ACPI Suspend Mode [s3] or [s1] or [s1 and S3] 2. How much RAM do you have installed.....if more than 3GB try booting DVD at boot: prompt with "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v" or if that does not help then try "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 platform=X86PC -v"....... evy41
There is an AHCI option for S3 supsend to ram or S1 poweron suspend... It doesn't matter? APIC mode is enabled and can't be changed. I don't see an execute disable bit.. where would it be? maybe there's one option that is similar in function but called something else? I have 2gb.. 2x512 + 1gb Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121574-ideneb-or-iatkos-on-sse3-pentium-4-machine/#findComment-860687 Share on other sites

evy41
THere's also a "resume by USB from S3" option... It's weird cause sometimes it will get to the install.. I'll pick my packages... then I'll get the osx screen of death near the end of the install in ten different languages telling me to restart. I have made it through the install before.. and when I boot it gets caught in a loop when it starts darwin. the "execute disable bit" might be an option in later bios versions (I'm not sure which one I have at the moment). So I'm going to check that out, too. I suggest that you stick with a simple S3 option resume from RAM at this stage.......the AHCI mode by nearly all accounts is apparently critical for OS X installation and running.....another suggestion is to install no vidio and audio drivers to begin with...... evy41
I am giving it a go with the ICHx fix, vanilla 9.4.0 kernel, and I think that was it. I haven't had much success with iAtkos v4i.. I think it might be the DVD. I'm doing iDeneb 10.5.4 riight now.. "about a minute" right now.. where problems usually occur. I'm beginning to not hear the DVD drive as much...... it froze at 19/20 completion. so now I'll try rebooting error loading operating system, the bios says. THe weird part is I've been able to get through installation on iDeneb before, but sometimes it doesn't work. I've tried both USB and PS2 keyboards/mice. The USB stuff only works when it's enabled as "BIOS" instead of "OS". I think I've gotten through the installation with the PS2 stuff. my bios is 1.6, and 1.8 is available. Here are the differences: Version: 18 File Size: 420 KB Released: 2004-11-01 1. Added adjustable MAX & MIN multiplier item for certain retail INTEL CPUs. 2. Updated CPU micro code. 3. Supports certain SATA CDROMs when "OnChip Serial ATA" in "Enhanced Mode". 4. Revised wording in PC health item. 5. BIOS compile date: 11/01/2004 Version: 17 File Size: 419 KB Released: 2004-08-30 1. Updated CPU micro code. 2. Enhanced certain ECC memory module performance on boot. 3. Another suggestion.....it may sound weird......but gently (slowly and smoothly) move pointer i.e. mouse about every 3 to 4 miniutes during the DVD OS X install phase......and as I say do a minimal install with no video, audio and 3rd party software options selected initially..... evy41
Wow I feel like an idiot. I left my other hd plugged in.. so Darwin attempts to load, but fails and restarts. a 5 second process. evy41
Well, I tried booting iAtkos 4i with -v and it say eventually: ERROR: FireWire unable to determine security-mode; defaulting to full-secure. Then: Still waiting for root device We CAN do this! thanks for your help so far. .... ..... but now after a retry I got past the ERROR: firewire... and now the UI is up. I tell you, this is pretty much unpredictable. I get panics... after I installed iATKOS to 75% when it froze. I get panics when I do -s and -v, or without. evy41
Successful install of iAtkos. 100%. I kept the mouse moving the whole time.. and it's booting! I'lll keep everyone updated. Ok I got through the registration process and everything. But when it loads the desktop it freezes. The first time I booted it freezed before the registration. What could be causing it to freeze?
