jivhg
Hi everybody, I bought a new WD My Book Home Edition 1TB HD and a 100 GB hard drive. The WD Hard Disk has RAID Capabilities so I decided to set it up with RAID, the RAID works fine, but Disk Utility and Finder Display it as having only 185.7 GB Capacity, any suggestions? Turns out when I use concentrated RAID it works, but I dont want to do concentrated RAID because it is slow, any suggestions? h2tran
Striped RAID distributes the read/write tasks across multiple drives and is limited by the size of the smallest drive. In your case, you have 2 drives, the smaller being 100gb. Since the data is being written in equal portions on 2 drives, it doubles the capacity of the small drive, hence the ~200gb. jivhg
So, what do I do? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121226-1tb-striped-raid-shows-up-as-1857-gb/#findComment-858293 Share on other sites
veamon
Get another 932gb hard drive. You can't use the full capacity of Raid without having hard drives of roughly the same size. How would you evenly distribute 930gb onto a 90gb hard drive? Now, if you can setup Raid0 (stupid, but you can) then it should show the whole thing.
