Hengy
I installed Vista and Mac OS X Kalyway 10.5.2 a while ago, and have been slowly working out the kinks. This is the last major one! I can boot into OS X, but I have to go through a very odd process... First, the Vista Bootloader comes up, and if I select "Vista", it boots. Selecting "Mac OS X", however, takes me to a screen that has a count down of 5 seconds. It has a message about pressing a key to go to advanced options or something. If I let it count down, it goes back to the Vista Bootloader. To get into Mac OS X, I have to press enter during the count down, and then select the partition that Mac OS X is installed on from the three on my disk. My question is: is there anyway to tell which ever bootloader that is, where Mac OS X is installed, so that I do not have to select the partition everytime I boot? Im not sure if this is a OS X bootloader im dealing with, or what. Thanks for any help, Hengy Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120717-dual-bootloader-vista-os-x-kalyway-1052/ Share on other sites
sly55
a multiple os system implies that you have to choose (to press a button) So in your case vista is the active partition, when you choose mac osx from your vista-bootloader and you don´t hit the key for advanced options, the darwin (os x) bootloader searches the active partition and boots it (in your case vista) So the easiest way to get a simple working bootloader is to active* the partition where os x is installed, this will make darwin your primary bootloader where you can choose the right partition to boot. This is what I´ve done, but I am booting Vista once in a month ;-) *to active the osx partition you have to find out which partition it is (for example: disk0s3=1 hdd and partition 3) Then boot yor vista dvd and go to the repair section, choose the prompt menu (sorry im german) and type in "diskpart", then "list disk", then "select disk 0" (if you have only one hdd), then "list partiton", then "select partition 3" then "active" and your third partition on your single hdd is activated, you can now restart your pc and check if the darwin bootloader makes his job as you wished for If not, activating vista works as above, only choose the vista partition... I hope this helps you a bit Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120717-dual-bootloader-vista-os-x-kalyway-1052/#findComment-854400 Share on other sites
Hengy
So if I set the OS X partition to active, will I still get the vista bootloader? or will it go directly to darwin? If so, how do I get to windows? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120717-dual-bootloader-vista-os-x-kalyway-1052/#findComment-854484 Share on other sites
sly55
no you will get the darwin bootloader, there you will have the option to do nothing which will boot to os x, or you push a button and then choose the vista partition which will boot vista. on vista bootloader you can remove the os x boot option so that after you chose the vista partition in darwin it directly boots to vista Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120717-dual-bootloader-vista-os-x-kalyway-1052/#findComment-854534 Share on other sites
yankeesfan811
I have the same exact problem!!! Using easy bcd will cause this..... My first screen when I boot is Vista or mac ( it's the easy bcd) then when I go to mac I get the Darwin boot loader and I have to go down one and hit enter again for os x to load! I tried setting the second partition to active (the os x partition), but I keep getting an HFS+ error! It works the way i have it, but it is really annoying. please help! kmikase
Probably you can't have 2 partitions active. But i was thinking may be it could be possible to change the "com.apple.Boot.plist". I did it to erase the verbose mode when startup: <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>-v</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>5</string> <key>device-properties</key> Underlined : lines deleted This is the boot sequence when you launch OSX, may be somewhere here we can put something which says what partition to load (rd=diskXsY ?) It is a supposition, i'm new on OSX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120717-dual-bootloader-vista-os-x-kalyway-1052/#findComment-855242 Share on other sites
Hengy
Thats what I originally had in mind kmikase. Change something to point to the OS X partition, so it takes out some unecessary steps. (I like to walk away from my computer when it's booting, not tell it what to do!) I just don't know how... which brings me to a quesiton: how do you edit "com.apple.Boot.plist"? Daft_Punk
EasyBCD doesn't really cause many problems, people just need to know what steps to take first. Use one of EasyBCD's utilities in the incorrect way, and it can result in very un-satisfying results. As always, the computer's problem is human error.
