TheBogieMan
Hi lads ‘n’ lassies Been lurking on here for a while, had an almost usable hack running on my old desktop…well apart from the lack of any form of graphics acceleration (Radeon 9250 card) The time has come for me to dip into my pocket money and upgrade my kit. I already have Tower case DVD-RW drive CD-RW drive 2 x 80gb HD 1 x 500gb HD USB sound dongle Belkin wireless dongle 17" LCD screen native res 1280x1024@75 I don’t play games but use Photoshop a fair bit, the ability to watch edit and create DVD’s would be a bonus, apart from that all I seem to do is surf, e-mail and add to my ever increasing music collection The shopping list is as follows Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H Motherboard Intel Socket 775 (NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i Chipset, ALC889A audio) - €68.82 Pentium 4 3.2 ghz 1Mb Cache 800 FSB SL7PW 540J - €36.93 Corsair 4GB 2 x 2GB PC5300 667MHZ DDR2 Value PC Memory - €67.54 Total €173.29 If you can suggest something better……and cheaper it would be greatly appreciated, although bare in mind I’m in Ireland so not the biggest choice of suppliers, the wife has a child on the way, there’s 2 1970’s motorbikes in the garage part restored and a 200 year old cottage that needs finishing off……yup I do like to juggle a project or three Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120467-time-for-an-upgrade/ Share on other sites
nickhe
seems good but you can get an e2220 for the same price as p4 and then you can overclock it to 3ghz and you got an even better hackingtosh for the same price and congrats for the baby Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120467-time-for-an-upgrade/#findComment-852431 Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
Don't get the P4. Bad idea. Get a Celeron M 440, E1200, Pentium E2180 or any Core 2 Duo. Don't get the nVidia nforce based motherboard. Get a Intel Chipset based motherboard. Synaesthesia
Better. I'm pretty sure it will. Get 2 gigs RAM though, it's really cheap and makes a big difference - totally worth it. Always check the wiki and you'll be fine. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120467-time-for-an-upgrade/#findComment-853210 Share on other sites
