Hackintosh w/ 16gb of ram?

So I want to build a hackintosh with 16gb of ram... and a 8800gt video card to start out with... later to be upgraded to dual 8800gt's

 

So what I want is a board with two PCI-E slots and support for 4gbx4 ram sticks.

 

For those of you who saw my other thread... I'm looking to eventually add another 30" LCD to my setup (or if not 3 other monitors).

 

For now I think I will stick with one 30" LCD + 19" old lcd.... the problem is I don't game and I don't really need things to really be to top of the line for games.. I do other things like run virtual machines and video editing/photoshop that could benefit from the ram and quadcore.

 

Now my question is is whether I can go for a 8600 gt video card instead.... will the "string" trick work (actually will it workf or the 8800gt in the first place, or is it just a 9800 thing)? And I found a board that seems to fit my needs (though only x16 on one PCI-E the second is only x8.. .so now I'm wondering if the "string gxf" thing will work), it was a Gigabyte for $250. Howver I also found another board for around $190 but it is not listed under the supported list, so I was wondering if anyone has gotten it to work?

Right now I'm just thinking better play it safe and spend the extra $60 bucks.... but as far as videocard.. maybe I can save money... given that even if I do decide to play games... 8800 on a 30" wont hold up anyway. =-/

Both of them motherboards take ddr2 ram so you will be limited to 8gb total you can get a board which takes ddr3 like this with 16gb of ram bundled I found but that price is just crazy you would be better off throwing a few hundred more with it and getting a bottom end four core Mac Pro. Pretty much the same goes if you look at the socket 771 boards which will go much higher on the ram using FB-DIMM's by the time you put the costs of everything together a Mac Pro starts to look real good. Not trying to rain on your parade or anything but realistically your looking at 8gb max on ddr2 boards everything else starts getting real expensive.

Both of the boards I posted are capable of handling 16gb of ddr2 ram.... or do you mean hackintosh doesn't allow for ddr2 with 16gb of ram? I'm a bit confused.

HOLLY S***!! Dang! Quad GB Ethernet and 8 USB? That's my kind of board. Thanks so much for posting as I was looking at another board for $10 less, but this OWNS it! WTF! You have to get that. That will make one Heck of a hackintosh. That's fricken sick. But really, thanks for the post. I always say proven to work is better than hoping when throwing that kind of cash out there.

I'm a huge of 8 and 16 GB's of ram so you can run windows mac and linux at the same time (IN VM's) which is good for programming, and is easy with 3 screens.
