samwilliamh Posted August 4, 2008 Share Posted August 4, 2008 First off, I just wanbted to point out that if this is in the wrong forum, please don't eat my face XD I did check the rules and couldn't find if there was a rule on where this would belong and this seemed fine. Anyhow, I am going to be builing a pc and I have enough space on the 750gb hdd for OSX (well duh). I was wondering if it would be able to run leopard straight off an install disk or if i would need to use kalyway (i need to know if it will run at all since im going into town on the weekend and if it will, ill pop into the apple shop and grab a copy of leopard) These are the specs: 4GB kingston ram 3.0ghz intel core 2 duo 1333FSB E8400 (i dont know if it is SSE2 or SSE3 though, which is what is worrying me) An asustek motherboard (Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus) with a wireless card built in nVidia GT8600 graphics card by asustek Seagate SATA 750gb hard drive Some random DVD drive - SATA Some floppy drive If you need to know any more specs then let me know and i'll folow up in a post. Thanks if you reply with something meaningful What is your ASUS motherboard model number - it will tell us what the chipset is i.e. nForce or Intel....... If you are running Windows on the PC then install and run CPU-Z it will indicate if the CPU is SSE3 or SSE2.......if not put CPU model number in google and SSE 3 and SSE2...... Is your random DVD drive SATA or PATA i.e. IDE..... Thanks if you reply with something meaningful The Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 supports not only SSE2 and SSE3, but SSE4. Anyway, always do research before buying new computers... One can tell if a person did his research before buying computer components by looking at how he spells the names of the components. If you miss out a zero in model numbers, (eg, the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, which you mistyped as E840), then much confusion can arise. And when it comes to installing OS X, the motherboard is most important (so see the post above). Hey im from portugal! anyways your hardware seems pretty good. if you want to boot straight off of a leopard disc you will need to use the boot-132 bootloader. theres a huge thread on it. do a little search!
