feriso
I acquired a q6600 and thought I'd swap it for my e6400. Also at the same time I bought a new DVD-RW Sata to replace my curernt IDE one. Now when I boot OSX (iatkos 10.5.2) it gets to the iphone dependencies and it then get stuck at "waiting for root device". I have 4 SATA drives in my set-up on my GA-P35-DS3R, two being JBOD on the gigabyte controller and then 2 raptors in RAID 0 on the ICH9 controller. Now I plugged the new sata into the Intel ICH9 port (yellow) as I only have 2 purple (gigabyte ones) thinking that it wouldn't matter too much. I haven't investigated in too muich detail (lack of time atm) yet but I thought I'd ask here if anyone has done any similar upgrades and found that it messes up the boot up at all. I've tried -v -x -f and still gets stuck and root device. I'll update as I find anything but any input would be much appreciated. 3Dman
I don't think it's from the processor, maybe from the new DVD ? Because stuck at "waiting for root device" happens on non supported DVD roms. feriso
Right, solved it. I wasn't the CPU or the DVD it was teh fact that I had plugged my hard drives in the wrong way round (i.e. HD2 into port1 instead of the otherway round) and i think it was looking on the wrong drive for the rest of the boot info (which wasn't there). Swapped in back and no problem what so ever. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/119081-new-cpu-makes-osx-not-boot/#findComment-843442 Share on other sites
