shoe1
I've searched and read compatible hardware lists and hackintosh build articles and both pretty much don't either give a full complete answer or the motherboard is a inactivated item. So my question is what is the perfect working Motherboard in conjunction with kalyway 10.5.x? It needs to support shutdown, start, restart, and especially sleep mode. Onboard working sound, doesn't matter if it's patching or not. Supports the Q6600 Intel Core 2 duo. Modest Overlocking ability. SATA supported. -------------------------------------------------- Things That I would prefer: Gigabyte Motherboard. On Board Firewire working.(if not could someone recommend a PCI firewire card that works.) Onboard Wireless working.(if not could someone recommend a PCI wireless card that works.)(and if not a PCI card, a USB Dongle) At least one working IDE connector. MicroATX (maybe) -------------------------------------------------- Thanks for any Feedback! FrankOS_Scripting
You can go on the Hardware Compatibility List, and btw, yeah Gigabyte mobos with P35 Intel chipset would be a perfect install. Work out of the box. FrankOS_Scripting
BTW, it's not a Q6600 Core 2 Duo but a Core 2 Quad Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/119027-searching-for-the-perfect-kalyway-mobo%E2%80%A6/#findComment-842988 Share on other sites

But I did look through agian the whole list and found the Asus P5K-E WiFi/AP Anyone have this specific board if so any tips or things I should know about? arrgeebee
I'm using the Gigabyte P35-Ds3l with huge success. Using the Kalyway 10.5.2 install method yields a completely usable build, out of the box. I had to use NVInstaller for my MSI 8600 GTS and all was working except shutdown/restart. I then used KalyWay 10.5.3 combo update and have since updated to 10.5.4 straight from Apple update. Rock solid and I have the Q6600 Core 2 Quad overclocked to 3.16Ghz. It's an excellent board for the hackintosh. coolied
Like I said in my original post I have went through the compatible list and either it way expensive or didn't stated or didn't support sleep. But I did look through agian the whole list and found the Asus P5K-E WiFi/AP Anyone have this specific board if so any tips or things I should know about? I have one, aside from using the Taruga thing to get mic input, it worked out of the box with vanilla kernel, only real work I had to do was put the device ID for my x1800xt into my ATIRadeonX1000.kext (and that isn't mobo related). Even the RTL8187 wireless worked without config hassles. Come to think of it, I believe I did need to use a modified AppleAHCIPort.kext for the ICH9R controller, without it the SATA drives showed up as removable with orange icons, and they were listed as generic SATA controller in System Profiler. No real problems at all, though. EDIT: Shutdown works out of the box (sometimes instant, sometimes within 2 minutes or so - worst case is the fans and PSU need to be shutdown manually; they just stay running after the drives unmount. But this happens maybe 1 in 20 shutdowns); restart works 100% of the time, sleep is a no-go though. It sleeps just fine, and behaves like you'd expect. But the video won't reinitialize upon wakeup. This could be particular to the x1800xt though. You used the vanilla kernel is this different or much different then kalyway? ( I don't know too much about osx86) Do you think if I used kalyway it might change this? (if you could take an educated guess.) Blake Castle
Hey shoe1, I'm running Kalyway right now and its working perfectly (Dual Booting with Vista). After alot of trouble with the "Still waiting for root devices" with both iATKOS and Jas and alot of other problems i decided to go for Kalyway. Read a bit and its working great now on my quad core. My specs are: Intel Core2 Quad Q9450 @ 3.2GHz 4GB DDR2 RAM (800MHz - 4-4-4-10) DFI LanParty LT-X48-T2R Motherboard (X48 Chipset) HIS Radeon 4850 IceQ4 1GB Edition 750GB Segate HDD (SATA, 7200RPM, 32MB Cache) 200GB Western Digital HDD (SATA, 7200RPM, 16MB Cache) I'll explain how I installed Kalyway to work on my computer: First i created a 50GB partition in Vista. To do this, Right Click on Computer and then click Manage. Go into the storage section. Select the disk you want to partition (usually the biggest disk as there is most free space), right click on it and select "Shrink Volume". Tell it to be however big you want the partition to be. Assign it a drive letter (I used M for Mac) and make it a NFTS drive. Put the disk in and restart your computer. If a menu doesnt come up saying "Press any key to load Darwin" before Windows loads then go into your BIOS and make sure boot from CD is before hard drive. Once Mac loads up DONT CLICK THE NEXT BUTTON! Go to utilities and then Disk Utilities. Select the partition you just created and want to instal mac on. In that window in the middle near the top there is a button that sais "Erase". Click that and from the drop down menu choose "Mac OS Extended". This will delete all the data on THAT PARTITION ONLY and prepare it for a Mac installation. Then go next next next until you get to the menu before the install starts. Click "Customize". From the Kernals menu leave the default selected and also select the Vanilla Kernal (This is used for all CPU's in the Core2 family). Go through and select your video card drivers and everything else should be ok. (For my 4850 i selected the 3850 drivers and a fix driver). Let it install. Once it's finished restart your computer. It should say "Press any button to show boot options". Press a button and make sure your computer sees the 2 operating systems installed. Choose one and press enter and have fun!
