After looking thru them, I figured this one would be worth a try. Since BB has a good return policy, I'll try installing from my external usb hdd and post back the results. http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.a...amp;catid=20354

I totally agree for this size laptop. A friend posed the offer to me to get him a hackbook working, and I couldn't resist at least trying. In my opinion, a pc isn't worth the conversion unless it's a 17" size. So far I've got the new Gateway to boot with iATKOS v4 using vanilla files, and the X3100 video driver. Monitor looks excellent with QE/CI and full resolution. Both cores are working and the 3G or ram seem to be fine. I haven't done anything further, but next I have to figure out what wireless card is in it, get sound working, and hopefully a cure for the constant reboot it has. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

I personally think that Hackintoshe's are great toys, but not reliable in most cases. Some will argue, but you need to build it ground up to work with whatever version you have, and then the update issue, and it can be a pain. Good fun and a money saver though. I really recommend a macbook for your needs if you need it to live for something important.

You're right, it's the "fun" part that we're having, lol. Anyway, I'm wondering what wireless card is in this unit, anybody know how to find out? On the support site, they mention Marvel as well as Realtek. Also, is this unit likely to have a pci-e card for wireless? I don't want to take it apart, and can't see the service pdf on the support site.

I tried iATKOS v4 and a 1490 Dell wireless pci-e card, which gave me 3rd party Airport wireless recognized and working great! The webcam isn't working, no battery status, no sound yet (Intel HD sound what number?) and has the constant reboot problem. Beautiful QE/CI graphics but the keyboard screen brightness doesn't work. Any help with these problems would be great!

I installed iATKOS v4 with vanilla, stock files, sata support, and X3100 drivers. Then I successfully updated with all the latest system updates online using the 1490 wireless card. I then tried the downloaded power management fix for the battery status indicator and that worked. The fan doesn't turn off when it's unplugged from AC power so that seems normal so far. The keyboard command for screen brightness doesn't work so the monitor is stuck on full. For sound a cheap set of usb speakers work, so probably usb headphones would too. My logitech webcam works, including mic. Maybe macam driver for the internal usb webcam? Not bad for $599 and fast too.
