cfhuk
After pwning my 3g iphone with the latest pwned firmware and seeing things start to go wrong, like mail not working and apps not installing (eg. boss prefs) even though cydia says they are installed, i decided to un-pwn it. After doing this, my carrier name is still what i set it to be with MIM (make it mine, available through cydia), and my battery is a numerical percentage, and mail still doesn't work and goes crazy with new mail alerts if you tell it to check for mail automatically. So i pwn it again hoping that maybe this might get it working or something will have been wiped by it somewhere that a re-pwn might solve. Alas, no luck. Mail goes into the inbox but won't load any messages and crashes as soon as i touch anything. Boss prefs won't install, at least its icon won't come up because cydia says it is installed. So restoring the phone in iTunes won't fully restore it, because elements of the pwning are left behind, and stuff won't work. Is there another way to fully wipe the phone or am i doing something wrong here, like is the backup of the phone in iTunes messing it all up and i should just set it up as a new iPhone? Any help appreciated, by more people than just me i'm thinking. Colonel
Try putting your iPhone in DFU mode, then doing a restore. After you restore, then choose "Set up as a new phone" instead of restoring from a backup. This will completely wipe your phone as if it were brand new out of the box. cfhuk
Cheers, I'll see if it works. I'll post back if it does. Just restoring as a new iphone works without using dfu mode but i may do that just to make sure ##### is back to normal as well. Cheers again. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118802-actually-restore-a-pwned-iphone/#findComment-841402 Share on other sites
Berzerker
A pwnage firmware is purely in the software and it doesn't mess with #####. A simple restore in iTunes should be perfectly fine.
