kingdom1
Hey, I've been a member for a while now and still haven't gotten around to getting my hack up. I've done a ton of searching and learned a lot but since I've started reading things have changed and it's hard to keep up. Things like this 132 and stuff have just begun to confuse me. I'm making a secondary final cut studio setup and I want it to be rock soild and have 10.5.4 on it because I'm getting an iPhone. Here's the hardware I'm working with: Mobo: P5K CPU: Q6600 Mem: Adata 2GB 800mhz GPU: Sapphire 2600XT HD: Sata Segate 320gb DVD Drive 1: IDE LG GSA-H55N DvD Drive 2: IDE Samsung SH-D162 Case: Sonata 500 I've got this stuff specifically for the hack(except for the drives which I already own), I've never even booted it up, so which is the best install method? This new 132 thing or kalyway or iatkos? I want to be able to use software update without bricking my install and I want to install vista on it down the road just so I have it (If a computer is modded for a hack first and foremost how do you get vista on a second hard drive in it?) I know this stuff seems easy but it looks like everyone has talked about all this so much that it seems like there's no simple guide to putting a nice clean solid install on anywhere. I'm afraid of software update killing the install, waking from sleep and all the stuff I used to read about but since it's been a while surely it's all gotten better? Also where do you find all the neccessary patches and stuff? I want to use my boards, sound, ethernet, esata, and firewire if I can. I really hope someone can walk me through this and help me get 100% compatibility. XX55XX
Firstly of all, I would recommend that you use Kalyway. Secondly, you can't simply install straight from the Software Update, as it would most likely break your install. Most people either use patched updates, or they download it straight from Apple's website following these instructions, provided by Netkas: http://netkas.org/?p=50 Your hardware looks fairly compatible, so you'll be most likely running the vanilla kernel. No worries there. Good luck! As for patches, I usually Google for them. I found my Ethernet driver after a search of Google. (Using another computer while doing this, of course.) MacNutty
Kalyway worked for me when others failed. Kalyway is great. You can then update through apple updates. kingdom1
Ok so I've got kalyway 10.5.2 which guide will walk me through installing it on my Asus P5K mobo? All the ones I've seen seem old and surely some of the problems those old guides from january had must be fixed by now? And what exactly is a vanilla kernel? Thanks a lot for the help so far guys.
