dorkbydesign.
This is basically me asking for help on setting up a webserver. So here's what I want to do. So is there a Mac OS X Server OSx86 version? And how do I configure my DNS so I can get free domain names? I'll give people who contribute to this positively, Light hosting. Namely: 200MB storage 30GB Bandwidth Free Domains (If I figure out how to do it) etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118246-need-help-configuring-web-server/ Share on other sites

dorkbydesign.
How many computers are you going to use for all this? One. Pentium D 2.8GHz. 2GB 667 RAM. 1.5TB HDD Do you have a router? Yes, D-link DI-524 or an Airport Extreme Snow What machines are the virtuals running on? Don't understand what you're asking. If your asking about the emulation software, I'm using Microsoft Virtual PC. You don't need to fileservers, the mac one can serve mac & pc Even network accounts? Just install the packages from leopard server onto a x86 install. :~) 1. Don't own an OSX Server Licence 2. Dont know which packages. skyhighmac
You router should be able to do dyndns. Look in the control panel. Thats a lot of virtual machines on one computer. Mac OS X server has apache. Network account as in ldap? My recommendation - run ubuntu (not in a virtual machine if you can), have it be a fileserver, web server, game server. howtoforge.com is a start. Virtual machines will kill your computer, you wont be able to do processor-intensive stuff while it is on. I'll keep watching this thread to help you along the way Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118246-need-help-configuring-web-server/#findComment-838632 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Yeah, I agree with skyhighmac in the sense that virtual PCs are resource eaters. They should never be left on as virtual servers, that will kill your computer unless its a powerful beast.
