Has anybody really been able to install natively from the patched DVD? (the 4gb ISO)

I get the Apple logo (gray screen) and after a while the light blue screen with the beach ball but nothing happens.

(Brand new D915GUXL with SATA drive).

I am going to go the DD route... but was just courious if somebody has been able to boot natively.

The Install worked fine for me with just that setup. Make sure that the permissions on your patched oah750d are correct. (Owned by system and in group "wheel")

I applied the SSE3 -> SSE2 patch, but I think I missed the oah750d patch.

Not to be snippy, but you really should have done some more reading first. You didn't need the SSE patch, but everyone needs the patched oah750d.

The reason you can't get past the spinning disc is that Rosetta, which is tied to the TPM, won't load on your 3rd party motherboard.

Read up on how to patch the installer disc for your motherboard (you only need the oah750d patch), and try again.

That board is LGA775, which I believe any supported CPU would be SSE3, so the SSE3>SSE2 patch would not be required.

Indeed. All he needs to do is patch Rosetta (and NOTHING ELSE) and the DVD will boot up to the installer screen where he can install. :) Make sure it is the newest Rosetta!
