I've got Vista 64-bit already installed on one partition of my single harddrive and want to try to keep it there. I want to dual boot into Leopard installed in the currently unpartitioned space. Here's my hardware: Asus P5K Pro Motherboard (Intel P35 / ICH9R, Marvell 88E8056 LAN, Realtek ALC883 sound) Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 (Wolfdale, 45nm, SSE2/SSE3/SSE4) 4GB DDR2 1066 Asus EN8600GTS Silent (Geforce 8600 GTS) Which distro is the best for having as close to a retail Mac experience as possible (good chance of future updates working, etc)? Which EFI is better for me to try - Chameleon or PC_EFI v8? I've currently got Kalyway 10.5.2, Leo4All, and BrazilMac (9a581) downloaded. Which one will work best for my hardware and a hopefully seamless updating experience? I appreciate any help you experts can provide. Thanks. Whatever distro you install, you will have to use modbin patched kernel for now. From what I've read Chameleon can help with 45nm CPU compatibility a lot and can allow you to run vanilla kernel just fine, at least that's what a couple users in this thread claim. This is absolutely false, please, if you don't know, don't answer.. 45nm cpu's work perfectly with unmodified "vanilla" Apple kernels. The issue referred to elsewhere is possibly related to a bug in PC_EFI v8 (which is utterly obsolete anyhow) or other issues, such as usb or sound drivers. Not, *in any way* a problem with the kernel. People have had varying success with Chameleon+Vanilla 9.4 Kernel. However for people with the clock running slow on a 45nm CPU with Vanilla Kernel, modbin kernel seems to be the solution for now. So depending on your motherboard try with Vanilla Kernel first and if you lose time gradually when the machine is running use modbin kernel instead. And yes, I dont run a 45nm CPU, so I am not qualified to claim authority on the issue. If there is an fsb detection problem with any cpu, the procedure is to check if the board is overclocking (particularly functions called things like "dynamic overclocking" often mis-report clock speed) then try setting an fsb manually at the boot prompt (&/or install latest chameleon first) , see if this fixes the issue. All I can say is that after several 45nm installs (I'm typing this on an e8400/ga-p35-s3g) I have never seen this issue, but then I install from retail. By all means, if people feel happier with a hacked kernel as a solution to a bootloader or hardware issue, fine by me. But extrapolating that there is an incompatibility between the OS & the 45nm cpu's based on a few new users having difficulties, when these processors account for the majority of new, problem-free installs, is just misleading.
