Suprjacob
Hey, here I am (again) with (another) problem with my computer (of course, the portion running windows). I have a SONY DVD-RW Drive, model DRU-710A (not SATA). It worked fine until a couple days ago. It works PERFECT in OSX Leopard and Ubuntu Linux. Of course, except in (you guessed it) Windows Vista. In the Device Manager, I get a "little yellow triangle with an ! mark in it" next to the icon for the DVD drive. If I go to Properties for it, it says: "This device cannot start. (Code 10) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available." Yeah, I clicked it. Guess what? It don't do {censored}, Micro$oft. Vista claims it cannot 'load the driver' for it. Why? This is what I have tried: 1) The 'Check for solutions' thing. Nothing. 2) Right clicking in Device Manager and 'uninstalling' the DVD drive and restarting. Computer restarts, shows 'new hardware' thing, same problem. Says 'failed to load driver'. Okay... 3) Going to SONY's website for new drivers. There are no drivers. SONY says they're included in Windows. Right. This drive has worked perfectly in Vista since last month, and is now just giving me random errors. I haven't even installed anything or modified it! I dunno. I don't get it :/ Ideas, anyone? Thanks, Suprjacob. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/117831-sony-dvd-rw-dru-710a-sudden-issue/ Share on other sites
Suzie's Soliloquy
Are you logged in as the super administrator? (By that I mean, username = Administrator), If not, try logging in as that (enable it through control panel) and then search for drivers. Should be able to find them then. I enabled it through the Run... on start menu with command "control userpasswords2". Then went to Advanced Tab> Advanced. Users tab on pop-up. Enabled 'Administrator' account. Am I supposed to do it a different way? And I looked at the properties of both mine and the Administrator account. They're.. the same. So I don't know what difference this made? Hm. Suprjacob
AHA! I contacted Sony. Customer Support is horrible. But, they told me to Google a program called Roxizap. (Why can't ya just give me a direct link, i dunno.) Thing is, Roxizap/Roxio Zap is a program used to remove Roxio programs. I have no Roxio programs. So I'm thinking this isn't gonna work. I use the program. Reboot Vista. It works. Wtf? I dunno dude. lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/117831-sony-dvd-rw-dru-710a-sudden-issue/#findComment-836774 Share on other sites
Espionage724
I believe I have this same (if not then close) model of this DVD-RW drive in my computer and it worked fine in Windows XP, Vista, Mac OS X Tiger, and Leopard. I would try flashing it with updated firmware. If that didn't work then try switching the cables that hook into the DVD drive around and stuff.
