amoeller
Ok I bought a new wifi card on ebay and its a AR5BXB6 mini pci express card. I have not received it yet but I was looking around and there seems to be a whitelist in my bios that will not allow me to use it without hacking it. I found that people on this forum have made pre hacked ones that are F.16 and F.27 bios but I want to use the latest bios F.2C found at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...4947&dlc=en I did what people said on other threads with the F9 hex and changed it to F8 in the BIOSCOD4.ROM file and I did all that. Thats not what Im asking for. I want to know if the modified bios I made is going to brick my computer. The bios I made is http://awesomeoreviews.com/OTHER/30BBF2C-HACKED.zip by the way. Here is a screen shot of what I did to the BIOSCOD4.ROM file http://awesomeoreviews.com/OTHER/BIOSCOD4.jpg Also I have herd that I can use the Phoenix Crisis Disk in case of a brick. I have the files but I don't have a floppy drive nor dose anyone I know so could I use a CD or USB flash drive instead? Thanks

You might consider adding the wireless card ID and SUB ID into the whitelist instead of changing the F9 to F8. From what I read you can get the ID and SUB ID if you set your laptop to sleep, then swap the card, wake up from sleep, and go into device manager to get the info needed. The Crisis Disk can only be use on a floppy, CD and USB will not work. You can get yourself a USB floppy just in case. Good luck!
amoeller
For adding the card to the whitelist and doing the sleep trick I would change the vendor info in the BIOSCOD4.ROM where the E414 is in hex. Correct me if I'm wrong. Could someone give me a link to a tutorial to do this. Thanks

amoeller
I remade the F.2C BIOS but added AR5BXB6 vendor and sub ids to the white list and left it the F9 hex alone. Can you take a look at this screen shot to see if everything is up to par? The screen shot is http://awesomeoreviews.com/OTHER/BIOSCOD4_ADD.jpg and the notepad file shows the AR5BXB6 ids. The remade BIOS is http://awesomeoreviews.com/OTHER/30BBF2C-HACKED-NWL.zip Thanks for all your help I really appreciate it.
Mike the Pirate
I took the chance and upgraded my DV9200CTO using Amoeller's 30BBF2C-HACKED-NWL.ZIP "No White List" with the bios mod inside dated 25 Jul 2008. It is a modified form of HP's BIOS F.2C 30BBF2C. I didn't have any problems and I'm back online again after the successful upgrade, so I wanted to tell everyone, ASAP. I don't have a new wireless pci card to try, but would like to upgrade to a Wireless N from ebay that will also work with Linux and the Hackintosh. thanks Amoeller Ok I bought a new wifi card on ebay and its a AR5BXB6 mini pci express card. lotsoflemon
I prayed and flashed my BIOS with amoellers hack and... the computer started up without any critical stuff :phew: But then i swapped cards and got 104 error I am now trying to make my own hack. I currently have an HP Pavilion dv9266ea with BIOS firmware F.2C (Hacked) and an Atheros AR5BXB6.
lotsoflemon
I am now up and running Phoeix BIOS Editor and WinHex, but when i search, i don't find my Intel PRO 3945 wireless card. So, if i am doing it right, my BIOS doesn't whitelist my Intel card that is currently working without -104 My question is: How do i find out which wifi cards are whitelisted for my HP Pavilion dv9266? lotsoflemon
I finally figured it out To help others with the same problem (not sure anyone will ever read this, but...) here's some thoughts: I first tried amoellers hack. It didn't work. It might work for you, but i don't know that. So what i did was: Read this for background (its quite funny too): http://richud.com/HP-Pavilion-104-Bios-Fix/ Read this for guiding you through: http://www.rechner.org/b1800_bios.html I will jump directly to editing of the .rom since this was were my problem was: Now what i found was, that the hardware IDs is pretty unorganized. So i found my working Intel ID twice (in the bioscode4.rom). I changed both of them to my new values and bingo - it worked If you can't find your ID, try searching for the Device ID first, the Vendor. Remember to switch, so if your vendor ID is 14B3 you should search for B314, also mentioned in the guides. I have uploaded my own BIOS incase anyone has the same configuration as me. It is based on the F.2C BIOS ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39360.exe It replaces: ------------------------------------------------- Intel ------------------------------------------------- PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4222&SUBSYS_135C103C&REV_02 Vendor ID: 8086 Device ID: 4222 Subsystem: 135C 103C With: ------------------------------------------------- Atheros ------------------------------------------------- PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_001C&SUBSYS_0086106B&REV_01 Vendor ID: 168C Device ID: 001C Subsystem: 0086 106B So happy hacking and remember: If your not sure, be careful to flash. It REALLY sucks discovering that you've edited some important commands. IT IS ON YOUR OWN RISK. Mit_hack.WPH.zip
Mike the Pirate
lotsoflemon, Have you tried making your bios changes on the lastest bios, the Hewlett-Packard F.2D? It should be the same update for your HP Pavilion dv9266. If you make the change, I would love to download a copy for my DV9200CTO. I don't know if I will buy an Atheros AR5BXB6 (AR5424) mini PCI-E Wireless Card, but it would be helpful to take at look at your bios mods . Thanks for you effort. WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (for Notebooks with Intel Processors) - Microsoft Windows/Vista-Based Released: 2008-12-22 Version: F.2D Enhancements: Resolves an issue where the data transfer rate is low for some memory cards. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp42001-42500/sp42187.exe .... and I hate dealing with this "Problem with unauthorized MiniPCI network card" I actually read that the reasoning for this is that the combination of MiniPCI card and the integrated antenna needs to be certified by the US FCC (Federal Communications Commission) or similar agencies in other countries. I found these hardware ID's on my own Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4222&SUBSYS_135B103C&REV_02 PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4222&SUBSYS_135B103C PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4222&CC_028000 PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4222&CC_0280 Device Properties Device: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection Device ID: 8086-4222 Subsystem ID: 103C-135B Device Class: 0280 (Network Controller) Revision: 02 I have uploaded my own BIOS in case anyone has the same configuration as me.
