jdxxx
There is a program call Norton Ghost and another called Acronis True Image that will back up and restore the OSX partition. Run the programs from your XP partition. I have done several backups and restores. Ghost produces more compact image files of the OSX partition. jrrjrr
I use Acronis True Image and have found that the backup file is much smaller if you run the "write zeroes to empty space" thing on the Erase portion of the Disk Utility in OS X, before making the image file over in Windows. I think Acronis goes sector by sector rather than file by file when it process the OS X partition, so having unused sectors filled with only 0's rather than left-over old data is a good thing. My 8.4 GB of stuff on a 11.7 GB partition reduces to a 3.8 GB file. Suser
I use Ghost to backup my 12Gig partition. Was indeed a big file but you need to start Ghost with the command line parameter -Z9 to set it to the highest compression level. Default is -Z3 if you don't mention it manually. I will try the zero thing. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11727-backing-up-system/#findComment-73515 Share on other sites
