JustInSane
What's a cheap video card that works out of the box on JaS 10.5.2 and Aperture 2.1? I'd prefer not to do any kext hacking. Aperture insists on one of these cards: [ATI Radeon] X800 XT Mac Edition, 9800 XT, 9800 Pro, X1900 XT, X1600, HD 2600 XT or HD 2600 PRO; [NVIDIA GeForce] 8600M GT, 7300 GT, 7800 GT, 8800 GT or 6800 series; [NVIDIA Quadro] FX 4500 or FX 5600 It must be PCI-e x16, and must have the old 15 pin VGA output connector to work in the current system. Aperture insists on one of these cards: I have the HD2600pro and it works fine with Aperture. Takes a bit of hacking to make it work, but nothing too difficult. If you search here, you will find the install guide. EGOvoruhk
Define cheap. You can get an 8800 GT for a little over a hundred, heck, maybe even less nowadays As for the VGA requirement, most cards come with DVI to VGA adapters Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/116759-need-a-pcie-card-recommendation-something-that-just-works/#findComment-826804 Share on other sites

greg_eales
Will a 2600GT AGP work okay, or are there problems with AGP cards? I'd like to run it at 1680x1050; I remember hearing about some problems with 16/10 aspect ratio cheers Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/116759-need-a-pcie-card-recommendation-something-that-just-works/#findComment-827125 Share on other sites
vbetts
The AGP bus isn't as fast as the PCIE bus, but there hasn't been a video card even to max out the PCIEx8 bus yet, so AGP will do you just fine. greg_eales
Speed isn't an issue at all really, I just want something that's going to actually work with out some massive headache getting AGP patches etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/116759-need-a-pcie-card-recommendation-something-that-just-works/#findComment-828091 Share on other sites
