kloan
I need help, big time. I was in the process of updating iTunes to the latest version so I could use my new iPhone, and the damn OS popped up a window saying there were new updates to be installed, restart? I figured it was iTunes, so I agreed.. since that's what I was installing! But no.... every update available was stuck in that 'install and restart' button and now it won't boot at all. What's worse, I tried deleting everything that was in the Updates folder in System folder, from the PC side where I could access the disk using Macdrive, but now I can't even access the drive at all! XP gives me an error saying the drive is corrupt... so I can't even back up my files now. Anyone, please.. if there's any hope of recovering anything, please let me know. This is the 3rd catastrophe I've experienced in the last little while... can't bear to lose much more. Dr. Watz0n
As far as I know, there is no way to rollback updates. So the only option would be if you had a Time Machine backup. If not, sorry. Oh yea, and try repairing the disk from the DVD Disk Utility, then try accessing it from XP. kloan
Thanks for the tip on the dvd repair.. I'll give it a shot. I only have an external USB drive, since the mobo I got is a piece of {censored} and doesn't let me use more than 1 IDE device, and OS X doesn't see IDE drives anyway. Hopefully, I'll at least be able to repair the disk so I can mount it in XP and get my files backed up before I give reinstalling Leopard a whirl. There's a tool in osx86 tools for rolling back your Leopard install to its original state. If you can get a mac os booted, give that a try. Also, start up from your XP install disk, use the repair startup options to try and get the xp working again. Best of luck. kloan
Well yeah it is a pain in the butt reinstalling.. but I'm more concerned with getting XP to read that hdd so I can at least back up my files before starting from scratch again.. But yeah, I definitely need to back up my next installation so if anything goes wrong I can restore it using that. Should've done that from the get go... yer right. pritthish
this is exactly the reason why i dont keep any data on my main OSX partition Everything, even my apps, are on a seperate partition so that even if i screw up, i can just reinstall leo and be up and running in 30 mins Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/116509-screwed-up-big-time-accidentally-let-the-os-install-all-updates-when-trying-to-install-itunes/#findComment-826347 Share on other sites
