I use Chain0 to allow a dual boot of my 10.5.2 / XP machine. I have only got this going in the last few days, but i want to be able to make an image of my XP partition. When I use True Image to do the backup, it hangs just before i get to select a partition to back up. I've never had this problem on my XP machine - if it can't identify a partition it usually just says - but I was wondering if making my PC dual boot in OSX is part of the problem.

Also, my disks are accessed under ACHI, rather than IDE - is this going to cause a problem?

In other words, is having a Mac partition causing True Image to have a problem finding all my partitions?

Interested in the experiences of others useing True Image on dual-boot machines.

I use version 11, build 8101 (which i think is the latest build). As I say, it never gives an error; it just runs and runs and never stops. I have also tried creating the ATI 11 rescue disk, then have booted from that. When I do it this way, it can then find the OSX and the XP partitions. I have been told that this boot CD is actually a linux OS CD, which is much more tolerant of other operating systems than XP. It idenitfies the Mac partitions as FS: None Partition: 0xAF (Apple HFS+, Shag OS swap)

Can you tell me a bit more about your setup so i can understand what the differences might be. For instance, does your ATI identify your OSX partition in the same way i.e. as FS: None Partition: 0xAF (Apple HFS+, Shag OS swap)? What build of ATI do you use?

I am considering using a version 9 of ATI that i have and seeing if that helps me out i.e. if it's dumb enough to ignore the OSX partition. I'm also wondering about some unpartitioned space on one of my disks - is this causing a problem for ATI?

I bought version 11. For whatever reason it doesn't like, doesn't want to do business with, my GUID partitioned hard drive. This is a real pain, though at least I'm not kept waiting to find out that it isn't going to work; I know how annoying that can be. I want to image the whole hard drive bit-by-bit. Someone told me Ghost might be able to do the job but I don't want to shell out money for something until I know for sure it works. I don't think CCC can handle GUID drives in a oner, either.

I try answer your questions ...

I have my backups images with a boot CD make with a install of Acronis, no remember that build exactly was used, but the version was 11.

And yes, Acronis 11 identify my OSX partition as FS: None Partition: 0xAF (Apple HFS+, Shag OS swap).

My personal preference is not make images into Windows for me is better boot with Acronis Boot CD and then create any image (Windows is not good for manage other partition types).

Ahh, and others programs like CCC or Time Machine (mac specific) no make images from NTFS/EXT3 partitions, and no restore your boot loader, etc.

If necessary i try post the "build" number here.

I´m sorry for my english, hablo español.

Saludos !

Thanks for that - seems you are using ATI like me i.e. from the CD.

I've since have some success with the trial version of Paragon Drive Backup - it imaged my NTFS drive, ignore the OSX partition - so I'm going to investigate it further, see what it is like with a scheduled differential image (which is what i really want).
