Hello everyone,

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

So I'm "installing" Mac OS x86 10.4.4 right now, but I am stuck at the part where it asks me to "Select a Destination" The problem is there is nothing for me to pick..?

I'm assuming at this point there should be a list of of disks/partitions available for install, but there's nothing whatsoever.

i followed this guide, partially...: http://www.profit42.com/guides.php?id=1

i skipped steps 5&6 because my image came as an ISO.

I have a two disks, one is SATA and the other PATA. The SATA has Windows on it and it set as the first hd to boot in sequence, then the PATA. The PATA is where I want to install Mac OS. I thought maybe it had something to do with the boot sequence at first, so I switched the PATA to be the first off the hop, but still no go.

Any ideas?

May need IOATAFamily.kext from 10.4.3 if you are not upgrading from 10.4.3. Some combination of PATA and SATA may hang 10.4.4 and 10.4.5 OSX boot after install eventhough it worked under 10.4.3.

And your DVD is hooked on: Primary Slave, Secondary Master, ... ?

Which is your Chipset?

My DVD is primary as it is the only CD reading device I have.

My chipset, meaning my processor? I have an AMD Athlon 64 3000+, which is on a K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLi Mobo if that helps at all.

hi im tryin to install Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86 Patched from a dvd but the installation hangs after it says installing Main software or somtehing like that and then it tells me to restart and that a problem occured.

Where do you get "Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86". All i have is 10.4.4...?What's the size of your image?

im followed this one

Installation Instructions

Preparation (Before Booting Mac OSX)

1. You need a program called "Partition Magic"

2. You need a working OS (Windows for example)

3. You need at least 6.5 GB of free space

4. First run Partition Magic and free diskspace by resizing the amount of space you want to use for Mac OSX (Do not create a partition, make sure it says "Unallocated space")

5. Press "Apply" and close Partition Magic

6. Click Start-->Run and type "diskpart" (enter)

7. Type: list disk (enter)

8. Type: select disk (the disk you want to install Mac OSX to) For example "select disk 0"

9. Type: list part (and you will see the partitions you have, you will not see the unallocated space you made earlier)

10. Type: create partition primary id=af (enter)

11. Type: list part (you will see your new partition where OSX will be installed) (enter)

12. Type: exit (enter)

Installation (Booting the DVD)

1. Boot the DVD by restarting you computer with the DVD in the drive

2. An Apple logo is going to show for a while...loading....loading....loading....

3. A plain blue screen is going to show for a while...loading....loading....loading....

4. Finally the installations instructions comes up, just follow them.

5. When you get to the part where you have to choose the target to install Mac OSX you will probably not be able to see a free diskspace to install it to.

6. In the menu above choose diskutility and choose the correct partition (the one you created) on the left. Select Format (Mac OS extended Journal)

7. Now you are fully prepared to install, the target is now available to select and install to.

Just follow the instructions and you are set!

I'm having this same problem on my laptop. I try to format it my partition but it says partition table not writable when I attempt it. The volume info when I have that part selected says its not mounted and is "mac OS Extended(journaled)" Its a sata drive if that matters as well. I'm using the 10.4.5 prepatched dvd. t doesn't let me verify or repair it either. It just comes up with an error when I try. Thanks in advance for any help. I was going to go to the terminal and mess around in there, but not sure where to start.

edit: fixed, it would let me format it into the mac FS thats not journaled(I forget what its called). Let me do tht than it recognized it and finished the install out. All seems to be working fine just need to get my nic working now.

I followed a guide with these same steps, and it still did not recognize my harddisk, even with Disk Utility in the MacOS install. It only recognized my DVD drive.

Hopefully this new ISO will be able to work. But I'm thinking it might be something to do with how my harddisks are set up. I am not using any jumpers at all, is that an issue? I let my BIOS choose which harddisk is primary by placing the harddisk first in the harddisk boot sequence. Any comments on this?

FINALLY someone having the same problem as me! With almost the same setup too, I'm using an Athlon 64 3500+ with a SATA drive. I was thinking it could be the way I have it hooked up too, but can't seem to figure out what I might have to change.

Well no luck with this new ISO; it is still not detecting any of my harddisks (with Disk Utility).

I'm going to try using a jumper for my PATA drive, see if that does anything. If not, remove my SATA and see if it'll detect it.

I'll note this for anyone who may have similar issues, hopefully you'll be able to use this information to correct your problem.

My Setup:

The important piece (
and the reason why the installation was not working
) of my computer setup is how my HDs are configured. I have two HDs: one SATA, one PATA, with (previously) no jumper settings to determine which would be Primary or Secondary.

My Problem:

The Mac OSX x86 10.4.4 CD was unable to detect any of my harddisks after following various install guides, even with the Disk Utilty tool in the install.

My Solution:

At first I thought it might have something to do with my ISO, so I tried others. When those failed, I inserted the jumper into my PATA again (as Master), and viola, Mac OS is detecting my HD, the PATA of course. I still had to go back into Windows so I can format a partition as type AF so the Disk Utility would be able to format it properly.

I feel like an idiot because I woud of saved much more time if I wasn't so lazy to open my case and put a jumper in... but everyone knows how tedious that can be. :D Anyways, just happy I got the thing installing :) ... still got a ways to go.

By the way, it still does not detect my SATA drive.

  • 2 weeks later...

sorry, i haven't been around. i put macOS away for a bit, I was really just waiting for the nVidia drive to come out. :2cents: and thankfully it did.

anyway, how did it go? everything working fine?

my problem was resolved by using a jumper for my PATA HD.
