Jeepmb
Alright, i red the chain0 wiki and all the posts about it I can find, but i need it to be spelled out for me because i am confused. So i am running Windows XP right now, here is what my boot.ini looks like (it is the attached file). I plan on using MBR not GUID to dual boot XP and Kalyway 10.5.1.. As far as i've read to do this i need to install chain0 to use windows to choose the operating system. The wiki says chain0 is this C:\chain0="Mac OS X86". But they also mention a file that is downloaded. ???. Do i put that C:\chain0="Mac OS X86" text into the boot.ini somehow? Just some help please. boot_test.txt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/115101-chain0what/ Share on other sites

Are you using separate partitions on 1 drive, or using 2 separate drives? I was trying to figure out the chain0 thing myself (Vista and Leopard both installed on separate drives) but I found this EasyBCD program that does it automagically for you, it uses something called NST instead of chain0 and works nicely (in my case). If you're using 2 partitions on 1 drive, I don't know if it works that way or not. Due to finding this, I never figured the chain0 thing out; so sorry I can't help with that. But I can at least offer an alternate solution that works for me and hopefully will work for you. Mac Ninja
1. Open up your windows drive root in Explorer 2. Go to folder options, and enable viewing hidden files, and uncheck "Hide System Files" 3. Right click on boot.ini and take off the read-only check. 4. Open boot.ini in notepad and add C:\chain0="Mac OS X86" as the last line of the file. 5. Download the chain0 file (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Chain0) and place it in the root directory of your windows drive (Usually C:\) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/115101-chain0what/#findComment-815701 Share on other sites
santiber
I have an HP Pavilion dv6200 notebook. I have Windows XP installed on it (1 HD with 2 partitions), and I want to install MAC OS 10.5.2 (kalyway) to give it a try. I did, so now I've got partition 1 with Windows XP, and partition 2 with MAC OS Leopard (already updated to 10.5.4), with Darwin dual boot. Now I am able to boot into MAC OS or WINDOWS when I start my notebook, and both OS work fine. I want to be able to boot Windows partition from MAC OS (I guess using VMWARE FUSION). I've installed this software on MAC OS, but when I try to boot the Windows partition it just doesn't. I have the chain0 file on my C:\ (Windows partition) but nothing gets better. I hope someone can guide me to make it work. I don't want to install a new fresh copy of Windows XP as I already have all my working software and data on the primary partition, already there, and working fine, so I just don't want to mess with it. On the other hand, I want to be able to boot Windows XP from within MAC OS or as standalone. Is this possible? thanks to all !!
