toolshed
I have 2 x 1GB Cellshock PC8500 in a Gigabyte GA-G33M-DSR2 The motherboard has only 4 memory slots. I'm running Kalyway 10.5.3, and XP Pro dual boot. I need more memory for video/photo work. I can get 2 x 1GB more of the same, making 4GB, or would I be better off getting new memory like 4 x 2GB modules? I don't have a big budget, but would spend for performance. Yaris
I think if you want to increase memory you should buy 2GB modules one by one or if you have the money, buy 4. 2GB modules are really cheap now though. completing
Keep in mind that using all 4 slots will increase overall system temperature. If your system is not prepared for the heat, it might actually slow down your computer. toolshed
I have no problem with cooling (Silverstone TJ-08) Will go for 2 x 2GB initially, and upgrade to 8GB later. What brand memory do you recommend? I'll be switching to a 1333 FSB CPU later too. hecker
Hmm, I am no expert in video but is 8GB really necessary? I thought the main issue (at least in linear video editing) was video memory, hard drive access speeds and CPU speed. Am I wrong? Please excuse my video-noobness. toolshed
Well, maybe, but is useful when running SFX, and I do some pretty big scans with Photoshop too.
