d00m42
Is there a way to confirm that I am running on the 10.5.4 Vanilla kernel? When I go to "About This Mac" It has a picture of a black apple and says Version 10.5.4. Most of the other screenshots I've seen of people on Vanilla Kernel show a white/silver apple that says Mac OS X under it. At the same time, I did just install 10.5.2, update to 10.5.3 using Kalyway's 10.5.3 Combo Update selecting the Vanilla kernel, then after fixing a BIOS problem it booted up and I used Software Update to install 10.5.4. (If software update worked for a system update then am I on Vanilla?) Now to get QE to work... iSkylla
uname -a But the latest modbin kernels look vanilla. If you can run vanilla, run it. To fix shutdown/reboot, use the reboot fix which is an older ACPIPlatform. d00m42
I get this: 9.4.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.4.0: Mon Jun 9 19:30:53 PDT 2008; root:xnu-1228.5.20~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/113800-confirm-vanilla-kernel/#findComment-805948 Share on other sites
iSkylla
Looks like vanilla but again, with the modbin kernel, you get the same output. If you chose vanilla, then you have vanilla. For sure, what's the size of mach_kernel in / Go to terminal: cd / ls -l Paste size of mach_kernel. d00m42
-rw-r--r--@ 1 root wheel 10293308 Jun 9 22:37 mach_kernel I also noticed that there is a modbin kernel in that directory, but that's the size of mach_kernel EDIT: Well there's a bunch of kernels there lol... iSkylla
Post the whole ls -l of / Kernel sizes changed with 10.5.3. I think that might be modbin actually but if you show the entire root directory, I can tell you for sure. iSkylla
Jeez, you don have a lot of kernels, why? I would say yes that it is vanilla. But why all the kernels? More importantly, permissions are wrong on several files just from a quick glance, I suggest you repair permissions. d00m42
I have no idea why so many kernels lol, but Thanks, I will repair the permissions. Is there any way to change the black apple on the "About This Mac" window to the white/silver one that says Mac OS X? d00m42
Ok, Thanks for all your help, now I just have to get QE/CI working, because it still doesn't work despite the fact I edited my device id: 0x029510de into the three main kexts for my XFX 7950 GTX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/113800-confirm-vanilla-kernel/#findComment-806057 Share on other sites
