I bought a Quicksilver off ebay about a week ago and it finally came in yesterday. You don't know how happy I was. It came in the orignal box with the original keyboard and an mx700, the original installation disc, and a 10.1 upgrade disc, but the machine itself has panther on it.

-1gb ram

-64mb video card

Am I correct in thinking that this Pioneer DVR-111D will work perfect in it?

And will I be safe in putting Tiger on it? I kinda want to max out the ram and just try leopard on it to see if apple was right in not supporting it.

yes tiger works fine on my quickie. installed from a 4 cd retail version due missing a dvd rom.

any pioneer or hitatchi ide dvd rom works in the quicksilver. including booting from mac dvd. have a 1.25 ghz quicksilver wich i upgraded with an hitachi dvd writer and works fine.

It's worth trying Leopard Assist. I used it to get Leo running on my G4 Dual 500 and it runs better than Tiger. I even have software CI support which I didn't have with Tiger. Most important thing is to make sure your firmware is up to date before you start.

Leopard definitely "feels" better than Tiger did although I've not run any benchmarks to prove it. The best thing for me was as I said the software CI support for the Radeon 9000 pro. It's never going to break any pots but it does give me all the "eye candy" in Leopard and it means my three macs are all running exactly the same system.

for info on installing Leopard on an unsupported Mac, but to be honest with the up to date firmware, Leopard Assist was a breeze. Good luck.
