Mebster
I'm looking to do what I suppose a lot of people here are looking to do. Install OSX on their PC's. The problem with me is that I have NO clue as to how to do it. I have been so far searching on the net for around 3hrs without much success. No one seems to have a clear and SIMPLE guide that I’m aware off. I would really appreciate it if someone who has already done it with success show me how I can run OSX on my pc with windows running (on the same hard drive hopefully). Also I just want to make sure that this stuff actually boots from the hard drive rather than is an emulator (coz heard they are slow). Help will be VERY MUCH appreciated. benofbodom
These are instructions i found from a pdf i found today, they are definately the simplest and most helpful i have found on the net. These instuction apply to the "Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86 Patched Bootable DVD" which can be downloaded from a .torrent file, which is about 3.7gb Preparation (Before Booting Mac OSX) 1. You need a program called "Partition Magic" 2. You need a working OS (Windows for example) 3. You need at least 6.5 GB of free space 4. First run Partition Magic and free diskspace by resizing the amount of space you want to use for Mac OSX (Do not create a partition, make sure it says "Unallocated space") 5. Press "Apply" and close Partition Magic 6. Click Start-->Run and type "diskpart" (enter) 7. Type: list disk (enter) 8. Type: select disk (the disk you want to install Mac OSX to) For example "select disk 0" 9. Type: list part (and you will see the partitions you have, you will not see the unallocated space you made earlier) 10. Type: create partition primary id=af (enter) 11. Type: list part (you will see your new partition where OSX will be installed) (enter) 12. Type: exit (enter) Installation - (Booting the DVD) 1. Boot the DVD by restarting you computer with the DVD in the drive 2. An Apple logo is going to show for a while...loading....loading....loading.... 3. A plain blue screen is going to show for a while...loading....loading....loading.... 4. Finally the installations instructions comes up, just follow them. 5. When you get to the part where you have to choose the target to install Mac OSX you will probably not be able to see a free diskspace to install it to. 6. In the menu above choose diskutility and choose the correct partition (the one you created) on the left. Select Format (Mac OS extended Journal) 7. Now you are fully prepared to install, the target is now available to select and install to. Hope it's as helpful to you as it was to me. Metrogirl
Our wiki has a lot of information here: Installation Guides I know some of them are complicated but they really do cover most of the stuff. I'd suggest that you pick one and try it, and if you get stuck come back and post here. With over 24,000 users there is almost always someone reading who knows the answer. Alternatively, post your system specs and details of the image you're trying to install (don't give the exact filename, because we might have DMCA issues) but you can quote the version number and give clues to what sort of patches you have. Then one of us can start you off on the right track. System specs are very important to getting you going. PS - I only just saw this thread, sorry you were hanging around waiting for a reply Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11252-help-with-installing-osx-on-pc-running-xp/#findComment-71130 Share on other sites
add9
Ho to all osxes! I'm trying to install OSX on my Desktop. I have got a notebook too, but for the first try I prefer doing this stuff on mu desktop. Unfortunately it doesn't have a DVD rom so I'm using the tiger-x86-flat.img. I've created the new 6.5 gigs partition, written on it this image using DD...but I can't boot to OSX...the PC stops after the memory scan. With SPFDISK now I can reboot to Win XP but OSX doesn't start. Someone could help? thanx a lot ADD9 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11252-help-with-installing-osx-on-pc-running-xp/#findComment-96485 Share on other sites
