Snerler
At work I wanted to combine two hard drives as one for faster access. When installing i chose "striped" option as RAID in Disk Utility, and selected two 500 GB drives. After installation the array shows up as 1 TB so its not the setup I wanted. How do I set up the type of RAID that will speed up disk access? Also, do you think the speed boost is substantial enough? The computer will be working with video. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112298-help-me-with-raid/ Share on other sites

How do I set up the type of RAID that will speed up disk access? That's correct. RAID 0 (striped disks) distributes data across several disks in a way which gives improved speed and full capacity, but all data on all disks will be lost if any one disk fails. Also, do you think the speed boost is substantial enough? The computer will be working with video. Thanks Not really. A software raid stripe is hardly worth the effort or the danger of data loss. Performance gains are minimal in real world operation.
