capran
Any ideas how to get it to recognize my Sony DW-D22A DL burner? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11201-sony-dw-d22a/ Share on other sites
Metrogirl
Can't help directly, but I can tell you that this drive is actually a Lite-On drive which is rebadged by Sony, so if you can find a Lite-On solution you might be further forward. Good luck. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11201-sony-dw-d22a/#findComment-70053 Share on other sites

capran
try looking for patchburn Tried it, didn't work, still can't find any optical drives. 3/7/06 11:32 AM PatchBurn version: 4.0.0a5 gestalt call: true cpu type: G4 PPC 7400 Mac OS X 10.4.4 PatchBurn 4.0.0a5 authorization ok! 0 devices found a.Count returns 0, no writer found saving log and disable Install button Guess its a PPC app too as it reports it has a G4! Any other ideas? I did a little price shopping and it'd be around $60 to get one of the drives that's reported as working in the HCL wiki. I'd hate to have to do that. capran
W00T I figured it out! Just to see if Mac OS X could use the drive at all, I took it out of my PC and connected it to my Firewire-to-ATA box, and lo and behold it worked fine that way! So I figured it must have something to do with the X86's kexts for my nforce3 board, maybe it only works with the primary ATA channel, on which I had both of my HDDs connected to, and the optical drive was on the secondary. So I rearranged it, and now my OS X HDD and the optical are both on the secondary and OS X can now see and use the optical! YAY! But strangely, when I boot the PC up, it gets the bootloader from the 2nd drive, not the primary with Windows/Linux on it. I double checked, and indeed the Windows/Linux drive is all by itself on the primary channel, yet for some reason BIOS boots the 2nd disk first! Fortunately I can still boot to Windows/Linux by hitting ESC after POST and I can choose the drive to boot from. I can't figure out why it's doing that. What's even weirder, System Profiler now shows this: ATA Bus: ST380023A: Capacity: 74.53 GB Model: ST380023A Revision: 3.33 Serial Number: 5KB0LWX7 Removable Media: No Detachable Drive: No BSD Name: disk1 Protocol: ATA Unit Number: 0 Socket Type: Internal OS9 Drivers: No S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported Volumes: foobar: Capacity: 68.53 GB Writable: Yes File System: NTFS BSD Name: disk1s2 Mount Point: ST380023A: Capacity: 74.53 GB Model: ST380023A Revision: 3.33 Serial Number: 5KB0LWX7 Removable Media: No Detachable Drive: No BSD Name: disk1 Protocol: ATA Unit Number: 0 Socket Type: Internal OS9 Drivers: No S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported Volumes: foobar: Capacity: 68.53 GB Writable: Yes File System: NTFS BSD Name: disk1s2 Mount Point: ATA Bus: SONY DVD RW DW-D22A: Model: SONY DVD RW DW-D22A Revision: BYS2 Serial Number: Detachable Drive: No Protocol: ATAPI Unit Number: 0 Socket Type: Internal WDC WD800LB-55DNA0: Capacity: 74.53 GB Model: WDC WD800LB-55DNA0 Revision: 77.07W77 Serial Number: WD-WCADW2175394 Removable Media: No Detachable Drive: No BSD Name: disk0 Protocol: ATA Unit Number: 1 Socket Type: Internal OS9 Drivers: No S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported Volumes: Mac Shuttle: Capacity: 40 GB Available: 13.65 GB Writable: Yes File System: Journaled HFS+ BSD Name: disk0s1 Mount Point: / DOS: Capacity: 34.53 GB Available: 25.96 GB Writable: Yes File System: MS-DOS FAT32 BSD Name: disk0s2 Mount Point: /Volumes/DOS SONY DVD RW DW-D22A: Model: SONY DVD RW DW-D22A Revision: BYS2 Serial Number: Detachable Drive: No Protocol: ATAPI Unit Number: 0 Socket Type: Internal WDC WD800LB-55DNA0: Capacity: 74.53 GB Model: WDC WD800LB-55DNA0 Revision: 77.07W77 Serial Number: WD-WCADW2175394 Removable Media: No Detachable Drive: No BSD Name: disk0 Protocol: ATA Unit Number: 1 Socket Type: Internal OS9 Drivers: No S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported Volumes: Mac Shuttle: Capacity: 40 GB Available: 13.65 GB Writable: Yes File System: Journaled HFS+ BSD Name: disk0s1 Mount Point: / DOS: Capacity: 34.53 GB Available: 25.96 GB Writable: Yes File System: MS-DOS FAT32 BSD Name: disk0s2 Mount Point: /Volumes/DOS I have no idea why its repeating each drive a few times, or why the first drive is labeled Disk1 instead of Disk0.
