So I have been working fine with my Kalyway 10.5.1 Vanilla kernal install for a while now and have a need to update to 10.5.3. I downloaded the combo updater and was installing the first pack when my machine crashed and said that I need to reboot. I rebooted and then get to an apple load screen and it never goes anywhere.

I rebooted again and pressed F8 for Darwin boot loader and typed -v and pressed enter.

It gets all the way to the following error:

FireWire (OHCI) TI ID 8024PCI now active, GUID 00cfffe100001a4d; max speed s400

My Hardware is listed in my signature.

Please help while I still have hair. :(

Any Advice???

c'mon anyone?

I really need some help here. Any suggestions.

Did NO ONE get stuck at a apple load screen? The grey screen with the little swirling ring?

The crash I experieinced was while running the first patch, and what happened was the Apple equivilant of the windows Blue Screen of Death. It states: you need to restart your computer. and it's a little dark grey with the white text.

Boot your Kalyway DVD

1. Don't reformat, go to "customize"

2. Reinstall the Kalyway Main system, This will downgrade your install. Also re-install your bootloader

3. See if you can boot now (you probably will)

thanks so much, I'm on my way home right now to try that!

can you be a little more specific on reinstall the bootloader? I'm a bit of a noob, still trying to figure that out. Is that on the kalyway install disc?

Also: what should I try to do diffedrently to update to 10.5.3?

ok reinstaling kernal and bootloaders for GUID and mbr

I'll let you know ow it goes; thanks for the advice.

So any ideas where to correct where I went wrong with the update, or what steps I should try to get the update going properly?

I got the kalyway combo updater from "other sources"now after I reinstalled the vanilla kernal and the GUID and MBR bootrecord from my kalyway 10.5.1 DVD, It just loads straight into my vista partition (see specs in signature).I realize now, that I should not have installed the MBR section, or so I believe..please help, I'll be at this all night

OK, gonna try this one more time, before I start from scratch. I still have the steps I took to get 10.5.1 installed and working, so worst case I can have that going before tomorrow (on a time crunch, have to record a music session tomorrow night). The whole reason for the immediate nned to update to 10.5.3 is the fact that DigiDesign has a pre release of ProTools LE 7.4.3 that is supposed to be stable on 10.5.3 ONLY! not compatible with prior versions of Leopard.right now I'm installing the vanilla kernal and the guid bootloader, hopefully I didn't fully fubar my partition when I accedentally installed the mbr as well as the ACHIwhatever (both were listed as sub items, checked, on the install DVD for Kalyway 10.5.1 and I accedentally installed them :) )hahaha, now I can't even boot to my vista partition :D meok starting completely over  installing kalyway 10.5.1 + patch and guid bootloaderwish me luck, and cry or my 83 gigs worth of lost session files

i don't see any hardware specs in your sig....

but i experienced the same thing... from kalyway 10.5.2, i used kalyway 10.5.3 combo updater, the install appeared to finish but locked up the machine once it asked me to reboot. so i never got to install the kernel patcher. on reboot, the boot process would hang forever roughly at the "firewire defaulting to secure-mode "message. booted to safemode -x -v , installed the proper kernel using the kalyway kernel pkg, for now i'm using the modbin ... reboot, reinstalled NVinject , modify kexts and restarted. 10.5.3 up and running. luckily for me safemode still worked

Thanks for the info MrRoper,

Yes, I reinstalled Kalyway 10.5.1 from DVD.

I tried and failed to install ProTools LE 7.4cs3

(failed because it could see the 003 in the mac intfo under firewire, but could not connect to it because it was "in use or not connected".)

I then used JaS updater and updated to 10.5.3.

I then immediately installed ProTools LE 7.4.2

I Then rebooted my machine (and it took a loooong time)

After that I recorded 8 audio in track through the 003 fore about 40 mind before it crashed to the the Mac BSOD saying: "you need to restart you machine"

the reboot after this power down by holding power button was loong and scary as well.

but after that I've been fine not crashed yet, knock on wood :)

ProTools 7.4.2 and Leopard 10.5.3 working on a hackintosh (sadly one failure), but yay!!

here's my HW:

GA-EX38-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X38 | Intel Q9450 Quad Core 2.66 Ghz | 2x Patriot Viper 4GB(2x2GB) 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 | 2x Barracuda 7200.11 750GB SATA | ASUS 20X DVDR | SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit | Antec P182 | Corsair 620W

Dual Boot Vista Ultimate 64 (currently fubard) and Kalaway OSX 10.5.1+ JaS update to 10.5.3 | Digi003

hi methose... think u must update first 10.5.2...then update 10.5.3...jas update is not good...if u use kalyway 10.5.1 try update 10.5.2 kalyway combo update first...

is this correct? Do I need to install the 10.5.2 patch, then the 10.5.3 patch when using JaS's updater? Does anyone know?

yup, so if anyone has steps to upgrade from kalyway's 10.5.1 basic install of the vanilla kernal +patch to 10.5.3 through whatever means, it would be great to have a little help.

at least two of us here need a little guidance.

I've been looking for a fix to the white menu problem with 10.5.3 and my Radeon HD 3850 (yes I have tried the fix listed in the #radeonHD channel's topic)

I have a GA-EX38-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X38 Mother board and a SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit video card.

I have installed kalyway 10.5.1 then installed drivers for video and sound, then updated to 10.5.3 with Kalyway's combo updater.

does anyone know of a solution?

I just got my Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 working on my Gigabyte -DS4 motherboard. I have Kalyway 10.5.1 vanilla kernel with Kalyway 10.5.3 Combo Updater installed.

The complete process I used was to install 5.1 from DVD with just kernel +patch and GUID bootloader, then immediately update to 5.3, then install the newest Radeon HD 3850 drivers from Netkas packaged installer, run white menu fix, then use Pacifist on the driver package to overwrite the existing drivers.

Worked like a charm: I have QE/CI, all resolutions, dual DVI.

Big Big BIG thanks to LastExhile for the help in IRC telling me to use Pacifist, and Netkas for creating the driver to begin with!!! Great work guys!
